Being a poor, but artsy college student, buying gifts for friends and family can seem daunting and difficult, especially being away from your family for so long. Here's a list of 5 things that I know your friends and family will absolutely love, especially since they will be made with your love!

1. Water Marble Mugs

These are simple to make, are inexpensive, and are absolutely adorable when they are finished! All you need is a simple white mug, which can even be bought at a local dollar store, some nail polish and warm water. The best part is that they can be made with many different colors or combination of colors. Not one mug will look the same and your coffee-loving friend or family member will fall in love with their new mug! Remember not to put them in the dishwasher!

2. Microwaveable heat packs

These are very useful and can often be made using items you would already have at your disposal! You can use socks or any other cotton material, and have a multitude of options to decorate your heating pad or to use a special pattern. You can fill it with flax seed or uncooked rice and can customize it to smell as you please using herbs! Your family and friends will adore this nifty gift!

3. Tie Blankets

This can be more expensive if you do not already have fabric but it is a wonderful gift to make for loved ones of all ages! You can choose two separate patterns, place them back to back and cut the edges. Then, you tie the front and back strings together, and after an hour or two, you have a wonderfully unique homemade blanket that is sure to keep someone warm during the holiday season!

4. Bath bombs, lip balms, and lip scrubs

If you have a family member who is obsessed with lush, you can try making your own bath bombs, lip balms, and lip scrubs. They are relatively simple and are easily customized to the likes of your loved one! Using a combination of these gifts, you will be giving a special girl her own spa day! Paired with a DIY mason jar manicure kit to make her feel even more loved and pampered!

5. Holiday wreaths

There are so many ways to make a wreath, but one of the most interesting ways I have seen was using a pool noodle, some left over ornaments, dried greens, and even some lights! It a simple way to decorate the doors of the homes of everyone you know! Simple and cute, but the decorator in your family will be sure to love it!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
