There is a reason why Devil’s Lake State Park is among one of the most visited state parks in the Midwest. Devil’s Lake is every Wisconsin adventurers' paradise.
Devil’s Lake is the biggest state park in Wisconsin. It is known for its 500-foot high bluffs along a 360-acre lake with sandy beaches, campsites, and rental concessions. This incredible lake is located in the Baraboo Range in eastern Sauk County, just south of Baraboo, Wisconsin. It is just under two hours northeast of La Crosse and around thirty-five miles northwest of Madison.
Its scenic beauty along with its proximity to the Wisconsin Dells has made it one of the most popular of Wisconsin’s state parks for both day use and overnight camping; the park receives over 2 million visitors annually. Here’s why:
Camping. Devil’s Lake State Park has 3 public camping areas located on the north shore of the lake and 9 group campsites on the south shore. Each campground has different qualities that have made each of them popular with various annual campers. They fill up fast, so make sure you make a reservation!
Hiking. Devil’s Lake has over 29 miles of trails for any skill level hiker including amazingly scenic sections of the national Ice Age trail.
Rock climbing. Devil’s Lake is one of the premier rock climbing areas in the Midwest, with climbs of varying difficulty.
Boating. Rowboat, canoe, and recreational kayak rentals are available through concessions at either side of the lake during the summer season.
Swimming. Devil’s Lake has two very large sandy beaches (each with a bathhouse), and kayak and boat rentals.
Family time. Each shore has picnic areas, grills, and children’s play areas including climbing gyms and slides located throughout the park.
In the heart of the Wisconsin, Devil’s Lake State Park is a unique and picturesque oasis. Clear blue water surrounded by beautiful green trees and bluffs peaking above; I still can't find all the words to express it's beauty.
