5 Things I'm Thinking About Now That I'm A Senior In College

I can't believe how fast time has flown by, and I couldn't be more proud of myself.

5 Things I'm Thinking About Now That I'm A Senior In College

As senior year starts in a little under three weeks, I am a nervous wreck. I didn't think the real world would be approaching so fast. How can it almost be over already? I have been doing some self-reflecting and have thought long and hard about things that I am excited for now that senior season is upon us.

1. I get to wear those alumni shirts soon.

Wouldn't that be awesome? Proudly rock your alma mater and deck your car out in alumni stickers and license plate covers? I can't wait for that day where I turn from a student to an alumnus of my university.

2. I finally get to decorate a graduation cap.

When I was in high school, we had strict policies about our graduation caps and how we were NOT allowed to decorate them. Now, that I am about to graduate college, I'll be able to decorate my cap anyway I want to so my family can spot me out in a crowd of graduates waiting to walk across the stage.

Only thing is, I should probably start planning ahead of time now, Pinterest here I come!

3. I am not going to slack off in my classes.

Even though I am a senior of sorts, I don't want to take the easy (and sometimes lazy) road when it comes to my grades the last semesters of my college years. I have worked so hard and I want to finish strong. I promise I am going to stay on top of all of my notes and assignments this year. NO EXCUSES.

4. Graduation pictures.

I can't wait to take these, actually I can because that means I am getting closer and closer to the real world and an actual real job. Taking those pictures in my cap and gown and on campus will be so bittersweet. I can't wait to start planning my picture session and I should probably start doing that 3 months in advance as well. Another Pinterest board.

5. How much I am going to miss it.

Every day that I sit in class this semester I will be thinking about what it will feel like to leave this place. How much I'll miss the easiness of just going to class every day and being around my friends and getting to network with amazing people. The day that I leave my university will be a sad one but who says that I can't come back?

When you walk across that stage come December or May, remind yourself of all of the hard work you put into making that degree happen and making sure that you were successful. I remind myself of that every day. The motivation and determination I used to accomplish my degree is the same motivation and determination I want to apply for the rest of my life.

Whether I go back for my Master's Degree or land an amazing job interview, everything I do I want to be because I have the skills needed to work hard and accomplish whatever I set my mind to, all thanks to my beloved university, soon-to-be alma mater.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
