The DMV is not just where you get your license. It's also an area of the country. The DMV stands for D.C, Maryland, and Virginia. Being from the Maryland area is so different from going to school in South Carolina. For example, one main difference from my area compared to South Carolina is that people are more aggressive. Being back home in Maryland if I was walking and saw a random person, I would not acknowledge the person. Going to school in the south I found out that it is common to acknowledge the person. One of the main reasons why I do not acknowledge random people back at home is because the area is very dangerous. I think people failed to realize that, yes, we might be one of the best places for jobs and success. That perception is seen from the outside looking in. The DMV might not be on the Chicago level of murders but we are definitely up there. It is not the safest place to live, in my opinion. I stay on my p's and q's when I am walking because people will try to rob you. Being aggressive gets you what you want here. If you are not aggressive, you won't achieve anything.
The DMV has its own slang words. I noticed that, down in South Carolina, there really is no slang terminology. I know, back home, all we use is slang words. The use of slang probably comes from our being a city compared to SC where it's more the country. Just the casual conversation with someone our age is filled with slang. For example if I was to see a friend I would probably say, "whats good, bob?"The word "bob" in slang terms is just referring to a friend in place of their name. As well as that word there are other words that have the same meaning which are "young, moe, son, or fool." When we are referring to a Chinese restaurant we just call it the "carryout." That word is universal for something that is very popular when there is "mumbo" sauce. "Mumbo" sauce is what we put on our chicken, rice, fries or just about anything we get from the carryout. When we go there the drink we normally get is half and half. That is a drink of lemonade mixed with sweet tea. The unique quality of our slang is what makes the DMV one of the places people want to be from.
