This past Saturday, myself and some others took a three-hour drive to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, to catch Dave Matthews Band at the Blossom Music Center. Even with all of us being avid Dave fans, this was our first time at the venue, and my first time traveling out of state for a Dave show (sorry New York).
I was very impressed with Blossom as a venue; I had heard nothing but good things, so it was nice almost to see them all materialize when I got through the gates.
As for Dave, this was my sixth show, but the first on this tour. I was excited to hear some of the new songs he's been playing throughout the tour so far ("Bismark," "Death on the High Seas," "Bob Law"), but I was looking for maybe hearing something a little bit different. And boy, did I get different.
The expansive 21 song setlist (including one "fake," a popular Dave-move, as well as one interlude), had six tour debuts, including rarities "Pig" and "Stolen Away on 55th and 3rd," which hadn't been played with the full band since 2014. The setlist also included a longer encore than usual, closing the night with a performance of the popular fan-favorite "Warehouse."
My favorite moments from the evening included DMB opening the evening with "Crash Into Me" and the performance of one of my personal favorites, "You Might Die Trying."
While DMB's next stop is Alabama, my next stop is (hopefully) in Saratoga Springs at SPAC in mid-June. If not, I'll be catching Dave and Tim in Canandaigua, New York, in July. Until then, I'll be on the #DMBCouchTour looking to see what else the crew has up their sleeves.
