10 DIY Halloween Costumes That Won't Break Your Budget

In This Article:

If you're a Halloweenie like me, then you've probably already got your costume all planned out and ready to go (yes, a month in advance...don't @ me). But sometimes, we need a little bit of help! Whether it's money that's stopping you from deciding on a costume or you just don't want to put in the most maximum effort (let's face it, not everyone's extra about Halloween like I am), this list is here for any of your Halloween costume needs!

1. The Bachelorette (or the Bachelor)

Have an old homecoming dress lying around that you thought you'd never wear again? Or a tuxedo? Have you got $10 to spend on a bouquet of roses? Then you've got yourself a perfect Halloween costume! Give out roses throughout the night to random folks to really embrace that Bachelor/Bachelorette vibe, too.

2. Arthur

The man, the meme, the legend. If you've got a white collared button down, a yellow, long-sleeved shirt or jacket, a pair of basic blue jeans, square-frame glasses, and a pair of white shoes (Converse are personally always my go-to), then all you have to invest in are some ears that you can stick on your head! Easy peasy!

3. Rosie the Riveter

The easiest of all Halloween costumes, tbh. All you need are blue jeans, a blue, button-down short-sleeve shirt, and a red bandana for your hair! Plus maybe some killer winged eyeliner to really seal the deal.

4. Kim Kardashian

All you need for this one is a pair of high heels and a tight outfit to accentuate your *ahem* assets. If you want to go for a more humorous costume, then throw in a "sex tape" to carry around with you (pictured above).

5. An Instagram photo.

Super duper easy and great for pictures with friends! Just throw on your most basic outfit and cut out a giant frame from cardboard to paint and decorate as your Instagram frame!

6. Any character from Gossip Girl

It's as easy as throwing on a school uniform or your most boujee outfit and calling it a day! The possibilities are endless considering how many characters there are! XOXO...

7. Superman/Clark Kent

In the day and age of superhero movies being the most popular movies there are, it's the perfect time of year to try out a Superman costume! Check your local thrift shop for a Superman t-shirt and then just get a button-down shirt, a tie, and some thick-rimmed glasses to complete the look! This could be perfect for a couples costume if you've got someone to be your Lois Lane or Wonder Woman, too!

8. Netflix and chill

Over-sized shirts in blue and red? Check! A printer to print out letters to glue/tape onto your shirt? Check! That's all this super simple costume takes, and the best part is that you can do it with your BFF!

9. Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast At Tiffany's"

Make Blair Waldorf proud in this super easy Audrey Hepburn costume! All you need is a little black dress, some pearls, a pair of black shades, and some black gloves and heels to complete the look!

10. Hogwarts student

Pretending you're a wizard has never been easier with this DIY costume! All you need is a lot of gray! Gray stockings, a gray skirt, and a gray cardigan over a white button-down. To really complete this look, add in some of your house colors (Gryffindor 4 lyfe)!

Let's get spoopy, guys!!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
