Fall is upon us.

The leaves are turning from their summery greens to beautiful hues of red and gold before floating gracefully to the ground where they can be raked into piles by the neighborhood kids, their laughter carried by the wind to the women baking delectable pastries and pies, the smells of which drift for miles to fill the air and create that magical smell that encompasses the nation during this season

All of this wondrous beauty, and you can't notice any of it because it seems like every square inch of your skin is dry and cracking. Of course, many people love the excuse to spend big bucks at Bed Bath and Beyond; but for those of us who don't crave the idea of lathering up with harmful ingredients, or perhaps those just on a tighter budget, there are many easier, healthier, homemade products to satisfy your body's needs.

1. Dry skin:

The dropping temperatures take a serious toll on your skin, the cold air and biting wind can dry out your skin from your head to your toes, causing serious discomfort.

Instead of spending big bucks on orange-tinted fall lotions that may-or-may-not work, give these a try instead: Homemade All Natural Pumpkin Spice Lotion or Nourishing Hand & Body Cream

Take preventative measures with these homemade Sugar Scrub Bars to pair with thismoisturizing Cocoa Butter Bar to use in the shower, or this Pumpkin Spice Bath Bomb to soak in the bath after a long day at work.

2. Calloused, Rough Hands

If your hands get extremely dry, try out this remedy from Complicated Mama- you'd be surprised how effective it is.

3. Wind-dried Face

Also, if you're like me, you're face doesn't take too kindly to the harsh climate and will get as dry and cracked as your hands- not the pretty fall look you were going, and it hurts even worse than it looks.

Facial moisturizers can be extremely pricey, but you can make these homemade dupes that will soften your face without putting a strain on your wallet.

Well and Good's DIY Fall Moisturizers

Say Not Sweet Anne's DIY Healthy Moisturizer (I use a small saucepan on low heat instead of a double boiler, and it works just the same!)

The best way to get rid of an already-dry face is to use a homemade face mask first: whip up one of these masks, set it on for 15-20 minutes, rinse off and then apply one of your fav DIY moisturizers. (Many of these masks also work to clear up any blemishes, as well as work to prevent any future breakouts. It's a win-win-win!)

4. Chapped Lip Remedy

Your skin isn't the only thing that suffers because of the colder temps, chapped lips are extremely common despite how preventative they can be.

Check out this DIY Lip Scrub and Mask from DIY Natural and pair with one of these Easy DIY Lip Balms (I suggest the Spiced Chai, Pumpkin Spice or Honey Cinnamon for fall) and say bye-bye to sore, dry lips.

Extra Fun for the Festive Folks!

I will be coming out with more fun fall DIYS soon, but for those of you who can't wait, here are a few of my favs that you should definitely try in the meantime:

This fun mask is a DIY 2-in-1! It works as a hair and face mask. Check it out here.

Nothing better to get you in the fall mood like a pumpkin themed face mask! Check out a few of my favs!

Wellness Mama's pumpkin spice exfoliating face mask here.

Alyssa and Carla's Fall Face Mask here.

Bargains with Brittanie designed a fantastic Pumpkin Yogurt mask! Check it out here.

And finally, these magical products can bring the festivities of fall into the bath or shower with you, keeping you in fun-time, fall spirit 24/7.

My fav bath bombs:

Fizzing Fall Scented Pumpkin bath bombs from this site.

Lovely Greens created a beautiful and relaxing bath bomb that is great year round. Check it out here.

Another festive DIY Halloween Pumpkin Bath bomb bomb recipe can be found here.

And this wonderous site created a dupe of Lush bath bombs, catered to the Halloween theme.

Bath salts are a simple, relaxing alternative to bath bombs for those who like to soak in the tub but don't have a terrible amount of time on their hands. Here is a great fall bath salt recipe from Simply Designing.

And for those who seriously don't have time to lounge in a bath at all, shower jellies are for you. This recipe shows a general idea for how to make shower jellies, but you can use fall scented soaps to match your jack-o-lantern nails.

Enjoy!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
