I haven’t stuck with a New Year’s resolution in years, but who has? We set these goals in January with hopes of sticking to it throughout the year, when we already forgot about them in April. New Year’s resolutions can be difficult to stick to, no matter how hard we try. We don't remember we had planned on eating healthier in the year until were halfway done in the year eating a double double at In-N-Out.
I believe an easier way to overcome these lost, forgotten New Year’s resolutions by de-emphasizing the importance of sticking to the same goal for an entire year. There are so many aspects in my life I would like to change but by focusing on the same goal for twelve months, I only change one thing about myself rather than a whole. So instead, I am going to challenge myself, as well as others to invest in short-term goals.
Short-term goals always come secondary as we like to dream big and go for the big goal instead. However, I believe short-term goals are just as important as long-term goals. There are many creative ways in which short-term goals can be made, depending on the month, the season, and sporadically. By creating short-term goals it makes it easier to accomplish them, gaining a sense of achievement and increasing self-esteem.
In 2017, I have already begun preparing some goals such as the typical ones as exercise more, eat right, and the more personal ones such as grow in my relationship with God and push myself to new writing limits. I believe with determination and initiative, I can achieve these goals in order to become a better form of myself. I am confident that by applying short-term goals in my life rather than one long-term goal for the year will be easier to accomplish.
So for 2017, ditch the New Year’s resolution and try New Year’s short-term resolutions!
