It is the monster that lives in every house,
the one that makes you second guess your favorite blouse.
It grabs your attention whenever you go near,
whispering false, insulting words into your ear.
It tells you that you are ugly, that your legs are much too big,
and how your hair is simply hopeless, that you may want to consider a wig.
It isn't long until this monster takes full control,
robbing you of every trace of confidence that was once within your soul.
Though painful, it's opinion becomes addicting,
as it strays so far from the truth of the image it's depicting.
It eventually turns the view you have of yourself into something you hate,
convincing you that you constantly need to lose more weight.
It's a shame how often we let it win, if only we could see clearer;
standing up against this powerful monster- the mirror.
