To My Long Distance Boyfriend

Thank you for staying by my side

To My Long Distance Boyfriend
Caitlyn Krueger

Having been friends since middle school, I never thought we’d end up together but I’m so glad we did. Within the first month of our relationship, I knew I was hooked on you. You make me so happy. I can’t help but smile every time I think of you and how lucky I am to be with you. You have truly changed my life for the better.

I know it wasn’t easy when I decided to move 4,000 miles away for college but I had to do what was best for me. I wasn’t sure how our relationship was going to work out. I was scared because you made me the happiest person in the world and I didn’t want to lose that. I don’t ever want to lose that.

A long-distance relationship is not easy by any means but I am so thankful we're able to make it work. Thank you for never giving up on us. No matter how many times we fight or argue we always work it out. Thank you for answering my Facetime calls or texts whenever you can. The time difference makes our communication a little difficult so I love any second I can talk to you. Thank you for staying up late to talk to me when I’m having a bad day. Sometimes I forget that 8pm for me is 1am for you. Thank you for motivating me to keep going. Your positive words and encouragement really help me get through my most stressful weeks. Thank you for believing in me when I don't believe in myself. Even through my failures, you help me get myself together and guide me in the right direction. Thank you for dealing with my lecturing about why you shouldn't be eating McDonald's at 11 o'clock at night. I'm only trying to help you be a better athlete and student. Thank you for being my number one fan and always rooting for me to be the best that I can. Thank you for loving me regardless of the distance.

You mean the world to me and I’m not sure where I’d be or who I’d be if you were not apart of my life. We have grown together and our relationship continues to grow stronger by the day. Although the weeks we barely talk because we’re both trying to balance practice, sleep, and classes seems impossible, we still make it out on top. Even though we are not together right now, I know that you are still there for me and only a phone call away. We will only continue to build on our relationship.

You’re my shoulder to cry on, my inspiration, and my best friend. I am so thankful to have had you by my side for the past year and I am eternally grateful to have your love. No matter how far apart we are, you are always in my heart and in my thoughts. I miss you more and more every day. I can’t wait to see you. I love you

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
