"Moana," Disney’s newest princess, is set to premiere in theatres Nov. 23, 2016. Over the past years, Disney has made sure to expand the cultural diversity of their princesses. They have made sure that their princesses no longer portray the damsel in distress, but have become strong and independent role models for little girls and women around the world. Whether it's traveling to a new land, breaking gender roles or fighting for what they believe in, it is clear that Disney’s princesses have become a force to be reckoned with.
Moana is the first Hawaiian princess to hit theaters. The film is directed by John Musker and Ron Clements -- both previously directed "The Little Mermaid," "Aladdin" and "The Princess and the Frog." The story takes place 3000 years ago on a Hawaiian island when exploration was at it's peak. The greatest sailors of that time traveled far across the Pacific discovering many new island across the ocean. For millennia all exploration ceased and no one knew why. In an attempt to save her family, adventurous teen Moana voiced by Hawaiian native Auli’i Cravalho, sails out on a daring journey. She soon meets the once-mighty demigod, Maui, voiced by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who seems to be a handful and helps guides her on her quest to become a master way finder. Together, they sail across the ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds. Along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and finds the one thing she’s always sought -- her own identity. This movie contains real Hawaiian mythology and delves deep into the rich culture and traditions.
Moana would make a total of 12 Disney princesses. This movie is expected to become a big hit just like its predecessors.This film contains music written by Hamilton star and writer Lin-Manuel. Unbelievable CGI animation brings the movie to life with its amazing detail that is sure to be very visually appealing. This film, compared to previous, will be more musical and have a hint of music from Disney's "Frozen" and "The Princess and the Frog."
Not much is known about this film and although November seems far away it will be here sooner than you think.This movie is sure to take you on a crazy adventure and give you a look deep into the ancient legends of that time. Talk about the success of this movie is already buzzing and it is definitely something you're not going to want to miss.
