Disney's 'Aladdin' Remake Definitely Did Not Ruin The Original

A while back, I wrote an article talking about how I hoped that Disney would not ruin their new remake of 'Aladdin.' I just went and saw it the other day with my best friend and Disney I do have to say, congrats and thank you for not messing up my childhood. I was so pleased with how this movie turned out, my Disney heart was in heaven.

Looking at the movie as a whole, Disney did a really good job of sticking to their original storyline. There were some changes that were present, but they added to the little changes that were made to benefit the storyline. Even with some slight changes, this has been, by far, the best remake that Disney has made in recent years. I haven't really been impressed with some of the more recent remakes, but Disney actually did a pretty good job with this one.

There were some changes throughout this version, but to me, they were almost all good changes. I really enjoyed the storyline that they added for Genie. As well as the new song that was added in for Jasmine. I mean where has that song been all this time because it is amazing!. There were so many things that I loved about this movie, but there was, unfortunately, one area where it did fall a little short for me. And that was Will Smith as the Genie.

Acting wise he did a fantastic job, but Will Smith singing 'Friend Like Me,' definitely was not it. I mean no one will ever be able to replace Robin Williams, so there's that. But I see no need for the changes that were made to that song. Like why does there need to be rapping....guess what there doesn't.

Overall, this movie had some amazing things going for it and I will definitely be purchasing it when it comes out on DVD. When I left the theater my Disney heart was so happy, watching 'A Whole New World' definitely broke me and I am 100% okay with that. With all of these Disney remakes, you can't help but wonder why they are remaking instead of creating new movies. I appreciate seeing my childhood come back in live action, but there is something just so special about a Disney Animated Feature.

In the end, Disney is going to make what they want and either it will be good or it will be bad. With 'Aladdin,' Disney did a good job, but I hope that in the future they continue to make more originals than remakes. They lucked out with this one, but the childhoods built on the classic Disney Animated Feature will only stay quiet for so long. I appreciate that Disney did not ruin this movie because I would have definitely been a little hurt if they had. This may be a whole new world that this movie is coming into, but it fits right in. From the music to the story to the colors, Disney's 'Aladdin' truly showed us a magical place!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
