For The First Time In 20 Years, Disneyland In California Is Closing Its Doors To The Public

Disneyland in Anaheim, California is closing its doors to the public for the first time in 20 years beginning on March 14 and through to the end of the month as a result of the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

According to Yahoo, California "Gov. Gavin Newsom Wednesday night said that gatherings of more than 250 people should be postponed or canceled across the state until at least the end of March." The park's closure comes after this prompting from the governor.

This is only the fourth time in history Disneyland has completely shut down. The other times were after the September 11 terrorist attacks, after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and after the Northridge earthquake.

Disney is not taking any chances and trying to limit the spread of the virus.

In Shanghai, Disneyland Resort has been closed since late January because of COVID-19. It is just now going through a "phased reopening" where they are reopening the shopping, dining, and recreational parts of Disneytown. Masks are required and each guest is required to undergo a temperature screening procedure according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Disney has also closed its parks in Paris as well as Orlando. Disney Cruise Line will suspend all new departures while Disney hotels, Downtown Disney, and their restaurants will remain open.

These closures are another on the list of impending closures happening worldwide as governments and societies try and contain and suppress the global spread of COVID-19.
