Disneyfied: The Enchanted Rose

An eye look celebrating the release of Beauty and the Beast.

I'll admit, I'm not sure this new version of Beauty and the Beast will be able to fully measure up to the original, but that's not the movie's fault. The animated version is just too good. Either way, my devotion to Disney and Alan Menken has made it so that nothing I find out about the remake has deterred me from seeing it at my first opportunity. So, in celebration of the film that owns my sorry self...

This week: The Enchanted Rose

1. Apply lid shades.

After applying an eye primer, apply a navy blue eyeshadow all over the lid and up past the crease and outer V, then blend it out with a blank fluffy brush. Using your finger, dab a bit of red/peach cosmetic glitter on the outer third of the lid, outside of the blue color. If you want the glitter to be more pigmented, use a glitter primer beforehand. I skipped that step in order to make it more subtle. You can also use light pink glitter around the edges of the red for more of a duochrome effect.

2. Start drawing the rose.

Use a green liquid eyeliner to line the upper lashes and create a wing by drawing a line from the outer corner to the spot of glitter, then connecting it to the line on the eyelid.

Outline the flower with a black liquid liner. Start with a U-shape, then draw a few curved lines inside it to create the petals and draw a small bud at the top and in the center. This part is kind of hard to explain, so just follow the pictures.

3. Color the rose.

Fill in the petals with a red or pink eyeliner. You can also use it to cover up any mistakes made while drawing the petals. Then use the green liner to draw a leaf extending from the outer corner, then one on the opposite side of the stem. If you want, you can draw a few thorns along the upper lashline. Use a white eyeliner (pencil or liquid) along the edges of a couple of the petals to accent the color of the flower and add some dimension.

4. Tightline and highlight.

Use a blue or green pencil eyeliner to tightline the lower waterline, and smudge the lid shade along the lower lashline. Then highlight the inner corner with the light pink glitter and highlight the browbone with a white eyeshadow, or one that's slightly lighter than your skin tone. Finish the look with a black or brown mascara.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
