Thanks to the cold weather and freak snow storms recently I've been thinking of summer vacation. Summer for me means a trip to the most magical place on Earth, Walt Disney World Resort. The restaurants and quick-service are known for their amazing food but they aren't the only ones. The snack options at Disney World are some of the best you can find. I've compiled a list of my top ten favorite snacks and five honorable mentions. So, here we go.
Honorable Mentions:
There are five snack foods that everyone talks about but I've never actually tried. Because of this I couldn't include them in my top ten but I thought that they at least deserved to be mentioned.
Turkey Leg
Found at: The Cool Ship, Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom
Sadly, I'm vegetarian so I've never tried this but it seems to be a staple for many people when they are exploring Magic Kingdom. I would highly recommend trying to share this with someone because of it's large size.
Pickles
Found in: Liberty Square Market in Magic Kingdom
I'm not the biggest fan of pickles myself but I do know that this snack has been available at the parks for a really long time. Apparently people love to just munch on a pickle while waiting in line, but it is super cheap which is probably helps it stay around.
Candied Apples
Found in: Every display case in any sweet shop.
These apples are a little too sweet for me and just seem like they would be really difficult to eat. But kids love them so they stay on my list and deserve to be mentioned. There are many different designs and characters which makes them exciting to look at when peeking into the sweet shop display cases.
Coke Slushie
Found in: Lunching Pad in Magic Kingdom and The Cool Club in Epcot
One of my best friends swears by this cold drink. And I mean what could go wrong with a frozen soda on a really hot and humid Florida day?
Grey Stuff
Found in: Be Our Guest Restaurant in Magic Kingdom
The Be Our Guest Restaurant was recently added to Magic Kingdom during their New Fantasyland expansion. I haven't had a chance to try it yet but if you are somehow lucky enough to get a reservation here you must try it. I've heard it's delicious.
And now for my official top ten list of Disney World snack foods. This list was hard to create and I kept constantly changing the order but here it goes:
10. Marshmallow Wands
Found in: In every sweet shop on property but I would recommend going to Goofy's Candy Company in Disney Springs to create your own.
This used to be one of my favorite treats to get after a long day at the parks. It consists of three marshmallows covered in chocolate, colored sugar and most of them have candies. Sadly, now it seems to just give me an extreme sugar high that I really don't need.
9. Popcorn
Found in: Food Carts throughout the parks
I know what you are thinking, popcorn? You can get that almost anywhere. But I promise this popcorn is different. Maybe it is just where you are eating it but it really is the best popcorn I've ever had.
8. Mickey Premium Bar
Found in: Any Ice-cream cart in the parks
This is a classic Disney snack that everyone in the family will love. It is always frozen to perfection and helps give you a needed cool-down in the hot weather.
7. Mickey-shaped Rice Krispies
Found in: Any sweet shop at the Parks and also by most cash registers
Rice Krispies have always been one of my favorite treats at home and by making them Mickey-shaped and covering them in candy you can do no wrong.
6. Mickey Waffles
Found in: Any breakfast buffet on Disney World property
The only way to start a full day at Disney World is by eating a couple of these covered in syrup. Why even give yourself the option of eating something NOT Mickey-shaped?
5. Churros
Found in: Any food cart in the parks
This cinnamon and sugar covered pastry is a must have during your trip. It is super light, so it is the perfect snack to have right before one of the many roller-coasters.
4. Beignets
Found in: Port Orleans Resort
When you order these donut-like treats you get handed them in a bag full of powdered sugar and then you get to coat them with the perfect amount of sugar. In my opinion, the more the better. If you leave from eating this snack not covered in sugar you did something wrong.
3. Schoolbread
Found in: Norway Pavillon of Epcot
Schoolbread is the one lucky food item to make it on my list from Epcot's World Showcase. This custard-filled pastry is covered in coconut and big enough to share. Norway knew what they were doing when they created this delicious treat. It is my must have when in the World Showcase.
2. Mickey Pretzel
Found in: Food Carts around the parks
I'll say it again, Mickey-shaped foods are just ten times better than normal shaped foods. You can get yourself some mustard or cheese to dip your pretzel in or you can just eat in plain. No matter how you eat it, I promise this will be one of the best pretzels of your life.
1. Dole Whip/Dole Whip Float
Found in: Aloha Isle, Adventureland in Magic Kingdom
And finally number one. This is not only my favorite snack at Walt Disney World but probably in the entire world. This is a pineapple ice-cream that you can either eat on its own or float-style with pineapple juice. I would recommend this to everyone, no matter if you like pineapple or not you have to at least try it. I only know one person who doesn't like Dole Whip and I've decided it is best if I stop trusting them all together.
Now i know there are many other snacks you can get and I'm sure I've forgotten to mention some big ones but these are my top ten snack foods at Walt Disney World. I hope that I've inspired some of you to try one or two of these snacks next time you are at Walt Disney World. Or that I at least helped some of you out of your cold and rainy April blues and made you excited for summer which isn't too far away.
