Walt Disney had broken the mold with his magical movies and tales and even post mortem he is still a person to be reckoned with. He worked hard to make the Disney Company what it is today, and it all started “with a dream and a mouse” (Walt Disney). Although many of the Disney movies are amazing, this list is going to focus on the Princesses and who is an ultimate ruler and who falls short of the throne.

13- Pocahontas- While the movie does host stunning colors and scenery, it is hard to look past the obvious historical blows that are far from true. Even some of the songs, like Savage, are hard to swallow while watching the film. Although some parts may be true to what was going on during the mysterious time of natives and white men, it doesn’t seem suitable for children landing it at the last spot on the list.

12- Aladdin- The story of the thief is fun to follow and even more exciting when Genie and Jafar come in, but since Jasmine feels like a last ditch effort in the movie it almost becomes forced that she is even a Disney princess. Her scenes feel short lived and she almost seems insignificant, but A Whole New World is still an amazing song and Jasmine’s pants are to die for.

11- Snow White- She may have started the whole Disney story and nothing can ever compete with the original, but although no movie will ever be loved like Snow White, the movie itself has fallen short behind a lot of the new movies that have emerged since its creation back in the glory days. Snow White and the Prince become almost forgettable behind the new stunning animation that Disney has to offer.

10- Brave- Merida is a new type of character that introduced the idea of living her own lifestyle based on her own agenda rather than following in the path of family legacy, but after her mother turns into a bear the story almost becomes lost and the plot is easily derailed. It still is a stunning film and who couldn’t love her red curly locks?

9- Alice in Wonderland- Although Alice is not technically considered a princess she landed herself on this list for her zest and curiosity that lead to tell an amazing tale through losing yourself to find yourself. The viewer is almost thrown into an LSD trip through half the movie, but that just makes us want to grab some brownies and popcorn and finish watching the movie.

8- Cinderella- A very iconic movie with great songs, a beautiful dress and singing mice. The movie is fun to watch and the prince is charming. The movie was so successful it got two sequels and a live action film.

7- Sleeping Beauty- The movie itself does lack in action and the prick of the finger does occur until way past the half way mark, but the action scene is too much to ignore. Maleficent is also one of the most notorious villains in all of Disney and no one can forget Aurora’s gorgeous hair and blue/pink dress.

6- The Princess and the Frog- A truly unique story, with unique characters and a beautiful place, one can’t help but feel enchanted by the story and fall in love with the characters. This one will make you laugh, cry, scared, and jump for joy. It truly has it all.

5- Mulan- Another movie with a lead lady wearing pants and kicking butt, and although she isn’t actually a princess she did save China. This movie has undoubtably the most catchy song in Disney (I’ll make a man out of you). Also, who doesn’t love Mushu?

4- Frozen- This film truly did break the mold for many little and big girls all around the world. With amazing scenes, a cute snowman and reindeer, and two powerful female leads, Frozen tops the charts in the amazing department. However, its over public representation wore it out quick knocking it down further on the list.

3- The Little Mermaid- Catchy songs, lovable characters, and a scary villain makes this princess classic land a top three spot and a prequel and sequel. The story of the Little Mermaid was so engraved in my childhood brain, that I watched it every day when I came home from school.

2- Beauty and the Beast- The story alone is great enough in this story, but when combined with the characters and heartbreak, this one is unforgettable. Also, Belle wears the greatest dress in all of Disney, ever.

1- Tangled- This particular film is usually looked past for its greatness, but let’s take a second to appreciate it. This is one of the funniest films with a strong female lead and a male lead that the little boys can appreciate as well. The sidekicks liven up the story and the villain is actually terrifying. She is living with Rapunzel! This movie can be watched over and over again and will never get old because it has never been over played.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours.
