A Disney+ Review, From a Disney Aficionado

It's finally here!

It seemed too good to be true! When Disney announced its' own streaming network with all of the classic shows and movies we all love, we thought it was too good to be true. Obviously, I had to sign up. The day that subscriptions were allowed, I signed up for an account with my family. So we did our waiting until yesterday, November 12th 2019. Finally, it is here!

Yesterday after classes, my boyfriend and I spent almost an hour and a half perusing the selections offered. So many classics from the vault, adventure packed Marvel movies, calming nature documentaries from National Geographic, and even Disney Channel shows and originals! If that wasn't good enough though, they also gave us a variety of DIsney+ originals (I'm most excited to watch What If and The World According to Jeff Goldblum).

Yes, this streaming service is extremely innovative and I am grateful for its invention, I also had a few complaints about the network. While they are minor and I will not be giving up my subscription any time soon because of it, I would like to see them fixed in the near future.

First, there are subtitles that I cannot for the life of me figure out how to turn off. I don't know if I am just dense or if this is just a setting that cannot be changed, but I cannot figure it out. I know opinions on subtitles are mixed but, as I am one of the people that prefers their shows without them, I need them off. I would like at least clarification from Disney on this feature. Preferably, I would like this problem fixed. But until then, if anyone knows how to turn them off and wants to help me, please let me know.

Additionally, they don't have ~all~ the movies. There are some Marvel movies that are still on Netflix and they didn't include every Disney Channel show (hello Sonny with a Chance?!). This is a super picky critique, I recognize this. I know that they are adding more content as time goes on. Let's just see what content gets added before I recognize this concern as a full on complaint.

All in all, I am very excited to keep watching (yes I said keep). There are a ton of movies from my childhood on this service and I am so excited to see what I haven't discovered yet.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
