I began going to Disney when I was 4 years old, and without fail, have been there every year since. I love it now more than ever, even as a 19-year-old college student, despite the stereotype that says Disney is "just for kids."
I don't remember a whole lot from my first few years at Disney, but I do remember being confused a lot. There was always so much going on, I had no idea what to do. Everywhere I turned, I would see characters or rides or kids. I was overwhelmed and my parents say I spent most of the time just observing.
As I got older, I spent less time watching and more time enjoying myself. I got more freedom to do what I wanted and I suddenly had more control over what we did and where we ate. If I wanted to meet characters, I could. If I wanted to ride the rides, I could. If I wanted to shop and eat, I could. Just like magic, Disney became more fun.
Disney also allows you to become a little kid again. It enables you to forget about the world around you and all of your worries for a little bit and just have fun. Whatever you came in worrying about is no longer an issue for a little bit. You're free to enjoy yourself in your own little world for a little bit.
And even though you're older, you're still able to do all the things little kids do. Want to meet Mickey and Minnie? Go for it. Want to splash around in the pool? Do it. Want to dress up as a princess? No one's stopping you.
Just because you grow up doesn't mean the magic suddenly goes away. You can still have fun and enjoy Disney to the fullest, even as a teenager. I have more fun now than I did years ago, and I know the older I get, the more fun I'll have.
