I am the type of girl who absolutely loves love. I am probably the definition of a hopeless romantic. I love romantic movies, cute dates and sneaky kisses, I love seeing other people in love and cannot wait for the day when I get to fall head over heels for someone.
But I cannot stand Valentine's Day.
I know what you are thinking, "oh she hates Valentine's Day because she's single." No, that is not the case. It is not because I'm single and do not have anyone to share it with, and it is not because I am jealous of other couples.
It is simply because I think the holiday is overrated.
We shouldn't need to designate a day to show the people that we love just how much we love them and that we care for them.
We should be showing the people in our lives that we love them every day.
We should not need an excuse to love other people, especially the people that we care about most in our lives. Yes, it is nice to receive flowers and chocolates, but why can't we do that regularly. You should not need a reason to show the one you love that you appreciate them.
Loving someone does not always have to be extravagant, you do not always need to bring them roses and diamonds, you can show someone you love them just by doing the little things.
Love is in helping them with the dishes, bringing them coffee in the morning, or helping them with something without them asking.
Love is being more intentional with the other person, noticing their needs and wants and acting upon them. Make the effort to realize what the other person needs and what you can do to make their life easier and happier.
Finding love in the simple moments is the purest form of love there is.
Love is never easy and it takes work. There will be days when it is hard and you may feel like giving up, but look past your own insecurities as well as theirs, and you will realize how beautiful having a relationship with someone you truly love can be.
Nobody is perfect, you cannot expect a relationship to be perfect when people themselves are imperfect.
We should not need an excuse to love others when we should be loving them every single day. Choose to love and appreciate your significant other, your friends and your family this Valentine's Day as well as every day.
