We all know that the world isn't a perfect place, there is violence and hate no matter where you go to some degree. The reason I am disgusted even though I already knew there is violence in the world is because the past few months seem to be filled with violence. Maybe it is me just recently tuning in with what has already been going on, but I feel like something has changed recently. There has been a disgusting amount of violence leading to innocent people dying. It seems like whenever I wake up in the morning then look on Facebook to see what is treading just to see what silly thing a famous person did, or what the hot gossip is, I instead have waking up to "Fatally Shot, Bombings, Worst Shooting In U.S. History."
I am disappointed, so very disappointed in the devastating events that have taken place in the United States, across the world as well, and I am disgusted with the response to these horrid events. I am mostly disappointed with the United States and that is definitely due to me living there. For the first time in my life I genuinely don't feel safe living in this country, and I am deeply worried for my friends who aren't white, and who aren't straight. My best friend that I love deeply is African American and with all the murders of innocent people, especially young African American males, I have realized that he may not be safe in this country.I don't want to lose anyone that I love for the color of their skin, or the faith they follow.
I woke up this morning to find out a African American man was found hanging from a tree where the KKK was looking for members the day before. I lost what little faith I had left in America being progressive. I am disgusted that in 2016 in America where people are supposed to be able to be safe from the dangers in other countries a black man was found hanging from a tree in a park. Racism repulses me, if you think you are better than someone else because of their skin color you are the problem in America. If you want to live in America why not understand it is a place with ethnic diversity, you will encounter someone different looking than you.
There have been so many shootings already this month and it is only eight days into July. I can't seem to keep up with who is being killed and what happened because there is a new person killed everyday. Isn't that depressing, we are living through a period of time in where someone is being murdered so often we don't even have time to mourn one person before the next dead person comes along? I can't name all of them, because I seem to be the last to know about the deaths, to name a few Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, the Dallas sniper attack that happened just last night. Also last month on June 12 we had the Pulse Night Club shooting that killed 49 people.
Back to one thing I said earlier about being disgusted with the response to the horrid events, I wasn't just referring to killings in the U.S. I was also referring to the Istanbul airport attack, I didn't see that one trending on Facebook though. The only things I saw on Facebook about Istanbul was from what my Islamic friends were sharing of it. Is America so hateful that a primarily Muslim country doesn't get the same media coverage or investigation that Paris or Orlando did? We didn't have Facebook filters for Turkey, or much news of it, that disgusts me, it should disgust you too. With all the killing and hate of African American people, Muslim people, Mexican people, LGBT+ people, Law Enforcement, (and it goes on) why can't we all try to lessen the hate?
Since Donald Trump started running for president hate towards basically everyone that isn't white has risen a large amount. I don't even know how to put into words so people can understand how not to follow hate. African Americans don't deserve to get shot because of their skin color, they aren't criminals, or worth any less as a human because they are a different color. Muslim people aren't terrorist they just want to follow their faith in American because of a thing called the First Amendment, their religion is beautiful and they come here to get a better life. Mexican people aren't criminals who come to America, they are no different than anyone else. LGBT+ people don't want to convert you into a a different sexuality, they aren't child predators, they aren't a threat to your heterosexual marriage. Transgender people are not an "it" they are people, they aren't dressing like a woman to attack you in the dressing rooms at Target, Transgender people don't make up this plan of turning their lives upside down to come out to their loved ones, face discrimination, get called terrible names, and get violently assaulted so they can listen to you pee in the bathroom. Let people be who they are, don't group your hate of violent and dangerous people with whole groups of people, that is called discrimination kiddo.
These statements may not be a popular opinion but I don't care, I stopped caring between the killings of the people at Pulse and when I woke up this morning to find out someone was hanged from a tree. Now I wake up and realize my loved ones, and myself aren't safe because of who we are.
