Former Stanford swimmer Brock Turner was recently sentenced to six months in jail for raping an unconscious woman. Did you hear that? Let me say it again, Brock Turner raped an unconscious woman and was only sentenced to six months in jail. SIX MONTHS. Six months in jail for dragging a woman behind a dumpster and raping her.

In her statement, this woman described how Turner’s attack left her emotionally scarred. “My independence, natural joy, gentleness, and steady lifestyle I had been enjoying became distorted beyond recognition. I became closed off, angry, self-depreciating, tired, irritable, empty,” she said.

The woman woke up in a hospital where she was told that she may have been sexually assaulted. I can only imagine the things she must have been feeling. No human being, man or woman, should be violated like that.

What’s worse is that he actually tried to run away when two students caught him raping her behind the dumpster. He tried to flee which tells me he knew exactly what he was doing when he assaulted this woman. He claims he was too intoxicated, but even with all the “intoxication” he still knew he shouldn’t have been abusing her if he turned to run away when he was caught red-handed.

This woman is going to be scarred by his abuse of her body for the rest of her life and he’s only going to spend six months in jail. Sure, he’s going to be a registered sex offender and he’ll spend six months in jail (not prison) but other than that, he faces no consequences for his actions.

This is an outrage and I am physically disgusted with our justice system in America. How can we trust our courts and judges to defend and protect us when they do nothing to keep guys like this in check and off the streets?

Rape is rape. Campus rape is still rape. Brock Turner knew exactly what he was doing when he sexually assaulted this woman, this UNCONSCIOUS woman. Six months in jail will teach him nothing! It teaches him that he can get away with basically a slap on the wrist. Why do I live in a world where a man can rape a woman and get off essentially scot-free?

To put the cherry on top though, Turner is now going around and attempting to educate students about the effects and consequences of alcohol. He is the poster child for having no consequences for his actions.

I have three words for you, Brock Turner— How dare you! How dare you rape a woman, face basically no consequences, and then go around and lecture your peers on the consequences of drinking and making bad decisions. You absolutely disgust me.

I’m challenging every one of you to share this article and let the world know what this repulsive human being did to this woman. Share every article you see that has to do with this guy so that America knows what he looks like and what he has done. I can only hope that by sharing every article about Brock Turner that America will share the same detestation for him and our justice system that I now do.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
