Disdain And Repugnance: A Conversation For Trump And His Supporters

I can no longer remain silent.

Disdain And Repugnance: A Conversation For Trump And His Supporters
US Weekly

I'm sure this article will be one of many you see this week condemning Trump and the absolute cluster fuck the republican party has become, but I can no longer remain silent. At this point, I'm not even sure which I'm more angered by, but I know that I am utterly petrified that there is a chance this absolute disgrace of a human being could win the presidency. I'm scared for myself, and women like me in this country, who have fought so hard to be where we are only to have a pompous and chauvinist commander in chief. I'm scared for people of color who have been pushed 15 steps backwards and will only continue to be silenced and threatened by a card carrying racist. I'm scared for Muslim men, women, and children who endure a half-life in fear of being deemed a terrorist simply for wearing a hijab or turban by the man who preaches Islamophobia just as Hitler preached anti-Semitism. But I think what I'm most afraid of is the fact that even if Donald Trump doesn't become the next President of the United States, his supporters will still be here spewing their intolerance with the justification that we allowed their ring leader to run for the position of one of the most powerful world leaders, and let him remain in the lime light, vomiting hatred like he caught food poisoning from the Cracker Barrel.

On Friday as I watched the Access Hollywood video containing the vile comments Trump made about women, I couldn't help but be sick to my stomach. Among the commentary he states "When you're a star, they will let you do it. They'll let you do anything... Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything." There I sat completely flabbergasted that this man would ever, even out of public eye, insinuate sexual assault as a benefit to having celebrity status. However, not to worry he did provide a late night "apology" (if that's what you'd care to call it) in which he issued a quick acknowledgement of his wrongs only to turn it around to an attack on the Clintons.

This video only leaves me with one question. How in the hell can anyone that believes themselves a decent human being, support this abomination of a "presidential candidate"?

However, this isn't the first time I've had this question. I first posed it when Trump made his way into the presidential primary race as a legitimate candidate. Then again in June of 2015 when he targeted Mexicans for "...not bringing their best. Bringing drugs." "...bring crime" and being "rapists." Again one month later when he targeted Megyn Kelly with the sexist comment of "blood coming out of her wherever." I asked again when in the coming months he started targeting Muslims and Syrian refugees for being part of ISIS and saying he'd spy on American mosques. I continued asking myself that question as I watched every video of encouraged violence took place at his rallies, as he mocked disabled and overweight individuals. Yet this list is only about three months worth of questioning on a nearly year and a half campaign of hate. If this list were continued it would include questioning his ban on Muslims, the illegal murdering of terrorist families, failure to condemn the KKK (or refuse the group's support), using Bill Clinton's infidelity to denounce Hillary's achievements, and calling for a renewal of the stop-and-frisk policy; but that isn't even close to the number of times I've questioned him, his policies, and his blind supporters.

You don't have to support Secretary Clinton or Gary Johnson or even Jill Stein for crying out loud; but if you take Donald Trump as your champion for the President of the United States you are telling your fellow Americans that your love for having reality tv like drama in the spotlight of national news, is more important than their rights, safety, and growth as a society.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
