This week, the second and final trailer for "Captain America: Civil War" ("Civil War" for short) was released. Before this, we saw a series of ads along the theme of "United We Stand, Divided We Fall." This is the final push for a movie that has been hyped up since its announcement in 2014. Between memes upon its announcement and and Twitter hashtags after the trailers, people are excited for this movie. I'm excited too. I have yet to see a bad Captain America movie and the Russo brothers are amazing directors. However, the biggest reason I'm excited is because this is going to be the best superhero movie of 2016.
How do I know this? Because this movie is the culmination of the characters developed over 10 movies. You could tell for a long time that Cap and Iron Man didn't get along, and if you read the comics, the anti-regulation side of Cap is strong. We are less than two months away from the movie's official release, but there's so much that we already know about the characters and the plot. Here are some examples of discussions one could have about "Civil War."
1. Previous tension between Captain America and Iron Man
When I watched the first trailer, I noticed that in the beginning, the tension between Iron Man and Captain America was strangely familiar. That's because it was. It had existed as soon as they met in "The Avengers." Loki's plan had been to tear the Avengers apart from within, and it almost worked because Iron Man didn't get along with the Hulk, and he didn't get along with Captain America. Why? Because they're two completely different characters meant to represent two different ideas. It was mentioned in "The Winter Soldier" that Iron Man had helped create the carriers that unfairly targeted innocent people. This movie is going to be a culmination of all the tension Captain America and Iron Man have ever had. And it's going to be tragic.
2. Bucky's role in everything
The first trailer focused on Bucky Barnes, who was controlled by HYDRA to fight Captain America in "The Winter Soldier." After breaking from said manipulation, he tried lying low until Cap found him, as shown in the first trailer. However, Iron Man's side is portrayed as anti-Bucky, and can't forgive him for what he did in "The Winter Soldier." Because of this, Captain America fights for Bucky and realizes that he's not the same person as he was in that movie. Why? Because Captain America cares about Bucky. A lot. He was Cap's best friend before he got his superpowers, and was concerned about Cap enrolling in the army in "The First Avenger." Now Cap is fighting for Bucky, as shown in the line "I'm sorry Tony, but Bucky's my friend." This is what's going to break my heart through the movie, that Captain will risk everything for Bucky. They love each other, and nobody can convince me otherwise.
3. How each superhero contributes to their side
We've known which superhero stands with Cap for a few months now, and with both trailers we've seen how many heroes like Ant-Man, Black Widow, and even Spider-Man contribute to their respective team (let's be real, Ant-Man riding Hawkeye's arrow was really cool). We've also seen how the war affects them. Black Widow told Iron Man that she wasn't the one who needed to watch her back, and was horrified at the destruction caused by the war. Because every hero is unique, it's fun to discuss which side is stronger and why. This is the only discussion that won't completely break your heart.
Just kidding. The entire concept of this movie will break your heart.
