First things first, I grew a city girl. For as long as I can remember, I've always been comfortable with the chaos that large cities always seem to entail. I never really thought of myself as someone who would find peace in nature. However recently, I discovered something new about myself.
For those who know me, I'm sure they'd say I'm quite the adventurous type. But up until this year, it's all been about cliche trips to the beach and discovering well known places. I never truly opened up my mind to what else could be out there for me to discover. This year, a lot changed for me. I switched schools, moved to a different state, and made a lot of new friends. These friends have given me an entirely different perspective on life. Their sense of adventure, although it differs from mine, is exceptionally great. I've noticed a new appreciation for discovering something I know little to nothing about.
While I've always loved sitting outside, taking long walks, and stargazing, I think it's safe to say that being "outdoorsy" wasn't an adjective to describe me. At least until this year. See, this year, I gained a new appreciation for the world around me. I opened my eyes and I mean really opened them, to find some of the most beautiful locations I've ever seen. Things like hidden waterfalls, peaks of mountains, and even tree lined streets seem to catch my eye. It feels like I'm looking at the world with a whole different set of eyes, when in all actuality, I've just opened my mind to the true beauty that's been there all along.
I'm looking forward to indulging in more outdoorsy and adventurous excursions. Activities like kayaking, surfing, white water rafting, and zip lining are all at the top of my list. I intend to conquer them all. While I still look at my future and have visions of settling down in a big city, I'm so thankful to have discovered a new part of myself this year. I now have an appreciation for the world around me, and I can't wait to see every part of it.
