Discovering Black Bayou National Wildlife Refuge in Monroe, Louisiana

Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge is a hidden gem in Monroe, LA. It is "a 5300 acre refuge providing habitat for waterfowl, endangered wildlife, neotropical migrants, and resident wildlife." Although I've been living here for over a year now, I never knew this place existed! When I walked on the path into the bayou, I felt like I was in a different world; it felt nothing like the Monroe I am used to!

While a good portion of the pier is currently closed, you can still access part of the observation decks and walk through the bayou. There are multiple observation decks in this refuge as well as canoeing and boating. This is a great reminder of how important it is to preserve our environment and keep Louisiana beautiful.If you are looking for something to do and you are going to be in the Monroe area, it is certainly worth it to check out this beautiful location.
