Why I Am Disappointed That Trump Will Be President

A rant from a woman worried about her future

I think everyone can agree that this election was a joke. A cruel joke. We were forced to choose between a racist, sexist, conservative liar and a woman who is under federal investigation for the FBI. I will come right out and say that I voted for Hillary, not just because she is a woman, but for everything she could have made it possible for women to do. I am in college, as some would say is the prime of my life. I could have walked into the workforce making the same amount of money as my male counterpart. Working at a gas station, I could have walked in knowing that the president of the United States, doesn't support me being sexually harassed in a place that I am supposed to feel secure. In 2008, history was made when we elected our first African American president. I believed at the time that that was the catalyst for a better, more accepting future. And the past eight years under Obama have been generally successful. He protected planned parenthood, legalized same-sex marriage in all fifty states, decreased unemployment, and overall provided a positive and pleasant presence in the White House. He never let the fact that he was a minority or a democrat with a Republican congress stand in his way of making change for the better. I thought America respected that. I thought we were abandoning an outdated way of thinking and had accepted that all people, no matter race, sexuality, gender identity, religion, etc, matter.

Trump has been quoted to claim things as that when "Mexico sends its people.. they're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists.." Or this sexist comment about women: "I will make all the Muslim women free to come out, show their goods and feel sexy."

Or consider his statement about Muslim women:

ll Mexicans are rapists", "All Muslims are terrorists", "Women should be punished for having abortions", hell even Pence has stated that he believes in electroshock therapy on the LGBTQ community, but we still elected them into office! When did America become so backwards, like the last eight years of change have meant nothing?

Overall, I don't know what the country will be like with a republican president, house and senate. But I do believe that we have overcome a lot by protesting and knowing what we deserve. With this knowledge, I am proud to live in America, and I believe all the improvements President Obama made will stay, and that his example will sit in the minds of those in charge and sway their future decisions.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
