I was at home watching Shrek with my two little sisters and it occurred to me several times that there were some questionable jokes that my sisters were obviously missing, but I completely understood and I knew they flew over my head as a kid. Here are some jokes that I found this time around.
1. "Although she lives with seven other men, she's not easy."
In the beginning of the movie when Lord Farquaad must pick a princess to wed, the mirror makes a joke about how Snow White isn't easy, even though she live with seven other men...
2. "Maybe he's compensating for something"
Upon arriving at the castle, Shrek and Donkey see how huge it is from the outside, Shrek makes the comment that he must be compensating for something, perhaps a small....erm...well you know.
3. "Wipe your....face"
When these little wooden people are singing about Duloc, it seems like they're going to say "wipe your...ass", but say "face" instead.
4. "Show me again, show me the princess..."
In this scene, Farquaad is in bed and asking the mirror to show him princess Fiona, the mirror obviously looks disgusted because well....this is a masturbation scene. Just look up the video on youtube. He looks down nervously and moves the blanket to hide his boner....way to go Dreamworks.
5. Donkey-"I'm not ready for a uh...physical relationship."
When Donkey is being trapped by Dragon, she seems to be feeling him up or something, Donkey says that he isn't ready for a physical relationship, not that a kid would understand that. Donkey is also shown later having some kind of dirty dream. He keeps saying "You know I like that." in his sleep.
6. "I have to save my ass"
We know Shrek was talking about Donkey, but this was a perfect time to put a pun and the common phrase "saving my ass."
8. "What he's basically saying is he likes to get....paid!"
Apparently Robin Hood likes to get laid, I mean paid.....
Well, there you have it, folks. This is why Shrek is still funny and relatable when you became an adult. Only now you can appreciate all the dirty jokes packed in there as well.
