"Direct" Women Qualities

No matter what people do or say, something will be said, a face will be made, and then it's time to walk away.

In my life, I am constantly called “direct,” which is meant in positive and negative ways. While some people love that I call it as I see it, others find that I am too blunt and abrasive. I can apparently scare people off, but I can also be the best person in your life. Some see it as a face, it’s also the personality.

Instead of the quiet persona or the pretty words, being “direct” is getting down to the point. No fluffy, pretty words. Sometimes, it’s funny. Sometimes, it hurts. Either way, it is these qualities that make up “direct” women:

  1. Call people out for bullshit.

For some reason people think they can get away with shit, but that isn’t the case. If one sees an elephant in the room, she doesn’t ignore it. Even the smallest detail is under observation and expect some questions.

2. Call people out for stupidity. (There’s a difference.)

“It’s stupid. That’s your stupid. You’re stupid. Everything stupid. Try again.” Instead of trying to pull the wool over someone’s eyes, it’s just being stupid and making stupid choices.

3. Probably swears

“Bad” words aren’t “sad” words. They’re there, fucking use them.

4. Snarky/ sassy/ sarcastic/ asshole

“Sasshole” is not a thing. You can be sassy. You can be an asshole. You can be both. But “Sasshole” is not a thing, because sassy people who are assholes don’t like cute nicknames.

5. Not shy

Don’t expect us to beat around the bush. We meet a lot of people, but we don’t make a lot of friends. To the friends we have, we are incredibly loyal and will destroy their enemies.

6. Best advice

It’s just common sense, but some people can’t even do that.

7. Runs with the “Big Boys”

On top of all things “direct” women can do, dealing and running with the “big boys” remains a crowning achievement of telling people no and “You’re stupid.” No charms work, so don’t flirt and smile. We see right through the lies.

8. Feminist.

Obviously.

9. “Resting bitch face” with a matching murder stance

We will not be messed with, so don’t even try. If you somehow manage to “win,” know that we let you and we’ll get what we want soon.

10. Probably called a b*tch or c*nt.

We are not bothered. We are not impressed. We are not turned on. We are not annoyed.

11. Unimpressed by people’s existence.

Yet, impressed how some people are still alive.

12. Authority problems

Respect bestowed or respect earned? If you are the boss, know that a watchful eye is on you. While we support you, just know that we will call you out for bullshit or stupidity.

13. Eyes on us

We’re well aware on how to command a room. Our presence alone does it, but we don’t mind saying something drastic.

14. Doesn’t care about being liked.

I know this might come as a shock, but our worlds don’t revolve around you.

15. Move on.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
