Writing for the Odyssey is awesome on so many levels but being the editor in chief can be even better. What some of the writers don't understand is that there is a huge difficult part of the job as well. Here are some things your content creators don't understand about their EIC.

1. We balance running our branch on top of an entire list of other things.

We keep up with you and make sure you turn in your articles, edit every week, write our own articles and even make up for the people that don't take their responsibility seriously while maintaining the rest of our busy lives.

2. We get stressed just like you do, surprising right?

When content creators don't follow the weekly schedule and don't submit content and give excuses like "I am stressed with school and work or life" just know it's not an excuse we pity. We understand your stress level may be high but you stress us out when you don't do your job correctly.

3. We actually have social lives too.

Some people don't think we're as busy on the weekends as others or we might not do as much as one but you're wrong. We have work, school events, family things and even our own fun activities we do but we still manage to edit your content and make sure it's ready for Monday mornings.

4. We don't always have the answer so we need to refer to our managing editors.

When CMS isn't working, we don't have a good enough article topic or if you're article won't share we might not always know the direct answer to fix the problem in that moment. We have to get in contact with our managing editor in NYC to help us so know it might take a little bit to get it.

5. We're always recruiting even when the rest of the team isn't.

We get excited to be apart of such a huge thing as a millennial so we're always talking about it nonchalantly to many different people. We try to inform everyone why the Odyssey is so important and such a big deal and why someone would want to create content for us.

6. We get writers block too.

When in doubt we wait for the weekly article ideas from our managing editors just like you do. We don't always have good ideas on what to write about so when our content creators use it as an excuse we don't accept it because we had to wait for an idea just like you.

7. We wish some of you would be more involved or not stress us out like you do at all.

It's okay to reach out to someone in your class that you think would enjoy being a content creator, it's okay to share your articles on every platform of social media, it's okay to want to help you EIC with recruiting or writing extra for a week. We want you to share your love for the Odyssey just like we do.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
