Have you ever been on a family trip, and suddenly realize that you and your trip members have very different ideas of relaxation…

With summer winding down and last minute trips in full swing, I thought it might be helpful to point out some of the different kinds of vacationers. That way you can be well prepared to deal with an array of personalities or situations that may come up. I hope this article helps you understand some of the different categories that we, as travelers, fall into while on vacation— and that by doing so you will learn to enjoy yourself just a little bit more.

1. The Sleeper

I’m sure we all know this person. Vacation for them is all about the zzzzz’s. They wake up late, sneak in an afternoon nap, and usually call it a night before 11 pm. This tends to be frustrating for the travelers who like to fill their day with as many activities as possible, but try to loosen up a bit on these guys— after all, we all relax in different ways, right?

2. The Planner

This is probably the type of traveler I identify with the most. These guys tend to map out everything that they want to get accomplished on the trip, and like to stick to the general itinerary. While this way of vacationing is great for those who are up for anything, it is important to keep in mind that not everyone will want to do the same things you do, and that taking some time to just relax and enjoy each other’s company is a valuable way to spend time as well.

3. The Complainer

The people who never quite agree with what the group wants to do. It usually comes down to him or her being stubborn, but these vacationers tend to (eventually) come around. It may take them a little while to enjoy the trip, but just take comfort in knowing that the moodiness and pouting doesn't usually last for long.

4. The Instagrammer/ Photographer

I must admit, I have been this type of traveler. This person finds comfort in documenting little moments throughout the trip, and will often stage impromptu photoshoots in order to get the best shot. Because as they say— If it’s not on Instagram, did it really even happen?

5. The Daredevil

If you can potentially injure yourself while doing it, the Daredevil will love it. These vacationers are always the ones to suggest skydiving, swimming with sharks, climbing the highest mountain, etc.

6. The Staycationer

I must admit, I admire the people who can make their own hometown look glamorous. Staycationers do their research and seek out the best places to visit right in their own backyard. This is a great way to save some money, and gives you the opportunity to see your city in a new light. (These are the also the best people to stay with when you want to visit friends, because they will always know the #1 spots to go to.)

7. The Kid Chaser

These are the parents who spend all of vacation running around looking after their small children, and who never really even get the chance to “relax”. You can always find them with sunscreen in hand, and looking like they haven’t slept in weeks.

8. The Roadtripper

I’m sure we’ve all been the one to suggest taking a road trip at some point in our lives. Road trips allow you to spend quality time with the people you are traveling with, and make some unforgettable memories along the way. This type of traveler would much rather drive multiple hours than fly, and enjoys stopping along the way to take in views such as the Rocky Mountains (or even the World’s Biggest Ball of String…).

9. The Shopaholic

This person tends to somehow know exactly where every shopping mall is, no matter where you end up traveling to. They find joy in spending the entire day shopping til’ they drop, and always have their wallets handy.

10. The Relaxer

Hand this person a beach and some sunglasses, and they will be all set. These types of travelers would rather spend time soaking up the sun, instead of planning a million different activities. Low-key relaxation is their main goal for the trip.

Wishing you all safe travels and unforgettable trips!

xoxo,

Noelle

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
