The 12 Types Of Friends You Make In College
Erin Shamleffer

College is the place where you meet new friends that will last for years, or even a lifetime. It's good to have a balance of different people to hang out with just in case one person becomes too much. Each person has their own unique trait about them, and no doubt you'll have at least three of these friends in your friend group.

1. The Parent

This friend is basically your adopted mom while you're away at school. This person is always prepared for anything. Need some Tylenol? Or some tissues? A snack? You can count on them to have it. There's a good chance that this person is a great cook, loves to clean and is always taking care of someone else.

2. The Brainiac

You will always find this person working on homework, studying for a test or making flashcards. You will typically find them in the library with their nose in a pile of papers or typing away on their computer. Don't even think about asking them to go out for a few hours because chances are, they'll be preparing for tomorrow's test.

3. The Stress-Ball

This person always overloads him or herself and commits to 20 different things within a span of three days. They're always running from meeting to meeting or from person to person. They're always on their toes and never sitting still. And that paper that is coming up? You best believe the stress-ball friend is going to be panicking the whole week about it.

4. The Procrastinator

It doesn't matter how much work they have due that week, they will always wait until the last second to start on it. Paper due at 11 a.m.? They'll start it at 7 a.m. that same morning. They like to play the game of seeing how late they can start an assignment without missing the deadline.

5. The Party Animal

Whether it's a Wednesday night or a Friday night, this person is always looking to have a good time. They're always searching for the best party in the area and who all are going to be there. Make sure you always have a water bottle and some Tylenol for that friend when they wake up the next morning.

6. The Jokester

You can always count on this person to crack a joke and make you smile when you're having a rough day. This person is always trying to make people laugh and have a good time. They love to see people have a good time and enjoy their life.

7. The Drama Queen

This person always has to find the negative in a situation. They're very overdramatic and make a big deal out of small situations. If something ever happens to them, you know they're going to go on a long rant about how awful it was. But don't let their negativity get to you.

8. The Princess

The whole world revolves around them, and it's always their way or the highway. If they don't get what they want, you'll never hear the end of it. Most of the time, you just have to roll with it and sacrifice your sanity for their happiness.

9. The Bad Influence

If you need to make a big decision or need help with something, don't go to this person for help. If you're on a diet, this person will probably convince you to eat a cupcake and splurge on some tacos. If you need to get to bed early, this person will convince you to stay up late and go get fast food at 1 a.m.

10. The Therapist

This person is full of infinite wisdom and advice. If you ever have any questions about life or what do to, this person is your go-to. They'll give you logical advice and reasoning because they have your best interest at heart.

11. The Child

You can always count on this person to crack an inappropriate joke. They'll probably throw food at you from across the cafeteria or prank you in your sleep. You always have to anticipate their next move.

12. The Spoiled One

Everything comes easily to them. Their parents give them everything they ask for and they don't have to work for almost anything. If they need something, they just give their mom or dad a call and everything gets taken care of.

Throughout all the different people you'll meet at college, you'll make a close two to three friends that will stick with you for a long time. Keep them close and don't take for granted their closeness. Whether you meet them your freshman year or senior year, they will be some of the best friends you've ever had. Embrace the new relationships because the memories you create will last a lifetime.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
