7 Different Things To Do This Fall Break

In case you have no plans for this wonderful fall break-

So, most of my friends from college are either going home or going on a lavish vacation for fall break. I was trying to decide what to do this fall break and came up with a couple of ideas. If you are anything like me I absolutely hate sitting around the house all day long and I for sure cannot do that for my entire fall break.

1. Go Home With A Friend

My hometown is only an hour away from college and I go home often. My parents work and my sister is in school so I would basically be sitting at home all day (like I am doing now in my apartment). Instead of going back to your hometown, possibly think about going home with a friend. I am driving to my roommate's hometown to spend my fall break. Sure, it may not be anything new to them, but it will be new to you. What's wrong with a little adventure?

2. Pumpkin Carving

So, this is not a whole fall break idea, but it will take up a good hour or two. I absolutely LOVE carving pumpkins. It is by far one of my favorite things to do in the month of October. I seriously carve a pumpkin every weekend. This can easily be done with friends, or even while binge watching Netflix.

3. Homework...

I know it is fall break, but sometimes there is still homework to get done. I have a midterm and two papers due once I get back. I guess the professors do not understand the word break. So, if by some chance you are overly bored, crack open a book and get ahead or caught up on some schooling.

4. Getting Back The Tan

Being from the South means that one day it can be 65 degrees, but by tomorrow morning it is already 85 degrees. Laying out during fall break is not overly that bad. There is still a nice breeze so it is not too hot, but just be careful you can easily get red quicker. (Or fall asleep for an hour like me)

5. Hello Nature

If all else fails, nature has your back. From hiking to camping, there is always something going on outside. I am perfectly content with just laying in my ENO all day on campus or even going on a hike. Along with that, it is great weather to go fishing. If you are one of the lucky ones, hunting season will be open for ya.

6. Scary Movie & Halloween Decorating

So this could go with pumpkin carving, but there is always the option to go Halloween shopping. I still wait until the last minute to do a Halloween costume, but this way you practically have a whole week to work on one. Along with costume hunting, getting things to decorate for Halloween can be fun! I also hate scary movies, but I love the feeling of being scared so spending the night in to watch Halloween movies with your friends can be fun!

7. Halloween = Haunted Houses

So, we have the decorating and movies out of the way, but now it's time for the real experience. Haunted houses are already opening up in all the towns around here so I am sure there must be some near by you as well. It will be a great time to go with friends, or as a date (good excuse to get close).

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
