The Different Stages of a Snow Day

To me, snow days are lazy days, so this is how I fill up these lazy days.

Today, for some reason in the middle of March, is the second snow day of the semester. In previous years I would be very excited as a snow day since it would just be a day of me hanging out with my closest friends since we all lived together. However, since a fire in the beginning of the school year separated my friends and me, I've had to think of new ways to stay entertained on a snow day. Most of these activities involve being lazy and relaxing, which is perfectly fine with me, but I try to do at least one thing to stay active. These are the different stages of a snow day for me.

1. Trying to actually sleep in

I have no idea why, but sleeping in has become harder and harder as I've gotten older. I try my best to let myself sleep in, but I usually end up waking up multiple times. Today I somehow slept until 10, which is very unusual for me, but at least I feel pretty well rested!

2. Being too lazy to get out of bed

I pretty much have nothing that I NEED to do today, so being too lazy to get out of bed is okay. I allow myself this longer amount of time to rest because on other days of the week I'm running around campus like crazy trying to get from TAing, to my internship, and to work. So, the extra time to lay in bed, in my opinion, is well deserved.

3. Deciding what to watch

This is a problem for me on most days, but, it becomes an even bigger problem for me on days where I literally have nothing else to do other than watch a show or a movie. Sometimes this process takes longer than the time it would take to actually watch the show or movie.

4. Lots of snacks

Last night I stocked up on some snow day snacks so I would be prepared for this long day of laziness. Though I have a kitchen and will most likely be cooking dinner for myself, the rest of a snow day is usually filled with chips and other snack foods.

5. Deciding to do one productive thing in the apartment

Today's productive house work task will most likely be doing my laundry. I'm lucky enough to have a washer and dryer inside my apartment so this doesn't involve going outside into the snow at all.

6. Exercise

At some point today I'm probably going to start to feel guilty about how lazy I've been and how much snack food I've eaten, so I'll probably try to fit a small workout into my day, just to get myself moving.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
