Pretty is something woman spend much of their lives being told they need to be, and then trying to get over it. Even the way we speak to young girls makes it seem like one of the most important assets for them to have as a woman is to be pretty. Pretty is a trend that always changes, pretty is an easily attainable goal with enough products on your face. Pretty is fleeting, and while at times pretty is a compliment- sometimes we take it too far.
Girls feel the need to spend lots of money to make themselves look a certain way, people starve themselves and go to other extremes such as surgery to meet a societal standard of this “pretty”. The pressure to be pretty comes from many different aspects in our lives, from family, people we may be attracted to , men, the media, sometimes even employers and (of course) ourselves.
Beauty ,however, unlike pretty which is merely skin deep, not only radiates from you but begins from within. Beauty comes from your actions, your mind, and what you put out into the world. Beauty should be the real goal. Beauty stays with you your whole life. Feeling beautiful means feeling happy and at peace, feeling beautiful comes from finding love for who you actually are, and then none of the vanity actually matters.
Beauty is vastly different from pretty, beauty has layers, beauty at times may be a bit harder to find. Surround yourself with people who let you actually be you and love you for it, don’t try to replicate some image that just isn’t you to appease a society who doesn’t even know what it wants. All in all just be you, because you are beautiful.
