The Difference Between Giving Up And Letting Go

It isn't hard to see that giving up is automatically translated into quitting or that letting go translates into having gone through something miserable. In this culture, giving up is frowned upon. You don't want to be the girl who can't do the Kayla Itsines BBG because it's to hard. You don't wanna drop out of that really hard class because it's moving too fast for you. You don't want to have to tell your friends, "I quit."

If you search for quotes about giving up, you find some like this :

"Don't be afraid to give up the good to go for the great." — John D. Rockefeller

"It doesn't matter how slow you go as long as you don't stop." — Confucius

"It's hard to beat a person who never gives up." — Babe Ruth

These people are all saying the same thing — don't give up, don't be a quitter. And they're right. You shouldn't quit things you're passionate about. Key word: Passionate. I've wasted many years doing things to make other people happy when I probably should have just quit. If it doesn't make you happy, quit and be proud of it.

Now if we start talking about letting go, you are no longer a loser, a quitter or pathetic. To have to let something go means that you've lost something, loss entails pity or sympathy from people. When you finally let go, you're setting yourself free, unburdening yourself of something (or someone) dragging you down.

If you search letting go you're going to end up seeing quotes like these ones:

"One of the most courageous decisions you'll ever make is to finally let go of what is hurting your heart and soul." — Brigitte Nicole

"You have to let go at some point in order to move forward." — C.S. Lewis

"You don't always need a plan. Sometimes you just need breath, trust, let go and see what happens" — Mandy Hale

The quotes are right. It's hard to stop caring about something that probably meant a great deal to you. I've been dumped more than I'd like to admit. I've had best friends choose to walk out of my life. The only thing about it is I wish someone would have told me to pull it together. It would have saved me a lot of time and energy I put into holding on to the past.

The difference between giving up and letting go is simply the way you choose to do them. I've quit many things in my life, and it doesn't mean that I'm destined for failure. I've let go of many ex-boyfriends and bad friends, but here I am optimistic as ever.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
