Recently the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors played in the NBA finals for the World Championship. The golden state warriors this year produced a super team including Steph Curry Draymond Green Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson.
The Cavs had some amazing super players also including LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, and J.R. Smith but this year it just wasn’t enough to defend the land and beat The Golden State Warriors. I’m going to explain the difference between the Cavs championship in 2016 and The Warriors championship in 2017.
When The Cavs won the finals in 2016 Lebron James made everyone believe that anything is possible if you believe hence the Cleveland saying Believeland, LeBron James was just a kid from Akron and went pro straight out of high school which is extremely rare.
He became a star in Cleveland very quickly but in LeBron’s career he decided to go play basketball for the Miami Heat which as you can imagine made a lot of Cleveland fans very angry and a lot of people hated him for it because at the time it was just like how could he leave him hometown, but after LeBron won a championship with the Heat he made a promise to every Clevelander that he would bring home a championship for Cleveland. If you ever notice when he plays he wears a bracelet that says I promise.
LeBron kept that promise and in 2016 he brought a championship to Cleveland and not only did the Cavs beat the Warriors in the 2017 NBA finals they came back from a 3-1 deficit. They were the first team in history to ever pull that off. Seeing Kyrie make that last three-pointer was one of the most amazing moments in sports history. What was even better is that the Cavs won the finals coming back from a 3-1 deficit in the Oracle arena.
As soon as the clock hit zero the city of Cleveland Erupted, it was insane. While Golden State fans were crying sad tears leaving Oracle Arena, Cleveland fans were crying tears of joy and happiness and hearing LeBron yell with tears in his eyes Cleveland this is for you was one of the best things to hear and see. So getting to my original point with the difference between the Cavs winning the finals and the Warriors winning the finals is everyone expects the Warriors win and they expect them to be good every year because of their super team but here’s the thing Golden State didn’t earn that win.
They bought their team. They did not need Kevin Durant on their team they already had 3 gold players. In Cleveland everything is earned nothing is given and the warriors just get wins handed to them because they have some superhuman team. LeBron and the Cavs worked their asses off for Cleveland. Look at the difference in the parade for golden state and the Cleveland. In Cleveland when they won they had people hanging outside parking garages while in Golden State they had room to lay on the ground and nap.
Cleveland worked for that win while Golden State did not. It was expected that the Warriors would win but look at the picture of Durant holding the Finals Trophy and LeBron holding it. There is a huge difference in the emotion level.
Durant’s face is "oh look a trophy I just got handed to me" while LeBron and his teammates are literally crying and have the biggest smiles on their faces. Cleveland fans were crying while golden state fans were clapping and cheering like it was just another game. To Golden State, a win is just another win nothing special to Cleveland a win is a win for their city. They work hard and play hard just to win for their city. Golden State plays for the money and the bandwagon fan base. Things are given to Golden state while in Cleveland everything is earned.
