The One Who Died To Know Me

Jesus Christ, my Savior

When I think about the road travelled by my Savior's feet; when I think about cross He bore for me. The pain He endured - the beatings and the teasing. He had to carry His own cross that He was to die on, after days of ruthless beatings.

Jesus knew that this was God's plan for Him to die to save men, but that doesn't mean it was easy for Him. He said in the Garden of Gethsemane “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will." ( Matthew 8:39b).

Jesus, God’s Son, who was totally innocent, was tortured and murdered for wrongs He didn’t do.imagine what it would be like to take in the sights, sounds and raw emotions of the people around you. Watch how some mourn and others mock. Out of love for us, Jesus willingly embraced the suffering He was about to go through.

Jesus showed His power over death as He came back from the dead three days after the crucifixion.

“When I survey the wondrous cross on which the Prince of Glory died, my richest gain I count but lost and pour contempt on all my pride.” - Isaac Watts

There is no power in the cross, but there is power in the One who died on it. There is no power in the empty tomb, but there is power in the One who got up and walked out of it. There is no real power in your life except the power of Christ within you.

A mentor of mine once said, "Jesus loves you enough to die a painful death on a cross and went through suffering that we can not even begin to imagine just for us to be able to have a relationship with the Father. He would do that all over again just for you." That is a powerful statement to me and one that is so true.

But this story doesn't end after His death. Jesus was put in a borrowed tomb with a giant rock placed in front of it. It seemed death had defeated Him and everyone was left confused and upset. This man, that was the Savior, was dead. No heartbeat, no breathing, no sign of life. Jesus tasted death and it didn't seem right.

So three days later, He rose from the dead to show that God was so powerful, He could even overcome death. This proved that Jesus was just who He said he was. That He was the Son of God and He came to save man.

So He stayed on the earth forty days, talking with people and showing them grace. Showing people He was truly Jesus Christ, even letting people touch his wounds. This Man, who was more than just a Man, showed the world that God is truth.

He then ascended to Heaven, leaving the Holy Spirit in our hearts and interceding our prayers for us in Heaven. This One Man saved us, bled and died for us. He was so much more than just a good man.

Romans 5:8 says, " But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." This verse shows how He died for us as a gift, and that our own works will not save us. Christ loved us before we were even created, and He knew He would have to send His one and only Son to die to save us. Yet He still created us.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
