There is a lot of pressure in the college world to go Greek, aka join a sorority or fraternity. It's a very popular topic and something that many look forward to as they begin their college journey.
I went back and forth with the idea for several semesters. I even paid the fee to rush at one point during my sophomore year. Each time it came to going through and rushing, I backed out and decided it wasn't for me.
I'm here to tell you it's okay not to go greek!
You're still able to have a great friend group.
You're still able to participate in things you love with awesome people.
You're still able to build up a resume and get involved.
You're still able to do everything a Greek community member can do.
I'm not here to bash the Greek community, and I advise you not to do it either because they're not so terrible.
But going greek isn't for everyone and that's okay.
While I didn't go greek, I did find a great organization to dedicate my time to and it gave me such valuable friendships.
I joined my school's programming board the second semester of my freshman year and I was hooked. I'm a part of an organization who puts on free events for students and visitors most weekends. I get to meet so many inspiring people, like Adam Grabowski, Daniel Martin or The Evasons for example.
Emily Kratzer
I get to travel to national conventions to meet other programming boards and learn what else I can bring to my campus and students to spice things up and keep them intrigued.
I gained such an amazing support system that builds each other up.
The point I'm trying to make is, no matter what direction you choose to go in college, just choose the one that brings you happiness and support. Hint: It's different for everyone!
