Catcalling. This word is such an overrated word, we use it as a description of what we say towards another person that is minding their own business in way to get some sort of reaction from the person it is being directed to. Example, whistle, shouting in sexual way towards a women that is walking by.

Yesterday, I was on my way to the bus stop and a man in a car drove past me while he yelled out something towards me. I didn't make out what he said but as soon as I stood by the bus stop, that same man comes back around and yells, "Well, stand at the bus stop W***e." In response to it, I just rolled my eyes because what in the world did I ever do to that person to be treated with such disrespect! I am over here minding my own business, waiting for the bus so I can go to work and here's some coward yelling profanity towards me because I didn't react the way he wanted when he first called me out. Really?? I will and never reacted towards anyone that yells or says any inappropriate things towards me. I won't give them the satisfaction of reacting. It boggles my mind how men in particular can be so degrading towards women. Others may say 'Well, if you wore something more appropriate they wouldn't say anything.' Excuse me but I've said it before and I will say it again, what one wears doesn't give anyone permission to harass another human being. I can wear a full trash bag and I will still get the same reaction. You know why that is? Because it's the mind of the predator and how they use it. We let society diminish how we should treat women and so it's okay to call them every offense word in the book and have it be okay with the rest of the male population.

I am pretty sure if your mother, daughter, sister, etc. were treated with such disrespect you wouldn't tolerate it. So, why do that to other women? I have had enough of the cat calling, slut-shaming, fat shaming. It's getting out of hand, we can not keep expecting things to be different if we don't start with the root of the problem. It's not a woman's fault if they are harassed, catcalled, or sexually assaulted. The way they live their lives shouldn't give you permission to say 'yes they deserved it' or 'it's their fault.'

I shouldn't have to feel scared walking towards anywhere in particular because I am afraid to be victimized by someone. I and many other victims don't deserve to feel insecure with our own surroundings. Of course we won't be letting our guards down because of how society as taken a turn it's not safe for anyone to be by themselves.

We need to stand united as one and protect one another. We can't tolerate the actions one does towards another human being. Especially, women. We've fought long and hard to have our rights and legacies be where they are now. We need to be EQUALS!!! Ladies and Gents, we need to be equal.

Let's have a better tomorrow by standing up for what's right and not let these degrading subjects be all there is. Our future generations with always look back on what we've either did or done. I said in my first article, what we do today will effect our future generations to come. Let's make our little girls future easier to be accepted as an equal than valued less because she's female.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
