Last week, Ryan Murphy's "American Crime Story" premiered on FX on Feb. 2. The pilot of the new series was a must-watch for all those that missed the real thing in 1995. As someone who has found interest in reality TV, I was looking forward to this show. I've never seen the real trial, but I do know the Kardashian name. I have taken interest in this case since it was such a pivotal moment for our society and Los Angeles. I found it interesting that the trial was filmed for TV.
I watched the first episode and became obsessed with the story and background of the trial. I did realize that this story isn't about OJ Simpson, but the innocent victims in the case. Nicole Brown Simpson was the ex-wife of OJ Simpson, while Ron Goldman was a friend that ended up being at the scene of the crime, who was killed. These two people were innocent and didn't deserve what they were given. The story began a trial of events that began to happen after the killings. Cuba Gooding, Jr. is portraying OJ Simpson, and to me, looks very similar to his character. The cast and crew are what makes the show, which makes it more believable.
The first episode showed a lot of the background information of the story and how everyone was connected once before. As someone who is from the generation that was born around the time of the trial, it's interesting to see what is being brought to television. I found the Faye Resnick, friend of Nicole Brown Simpson and "Real Housewives" guest, to being portrayed to be interesting. I have enjoyed getting to know the characters and the plot, but what I don't understand is how this could have gotten to this point? The story, pictures and the calls to the police were all before Nicole was murdered. As much as I'm enjoying the show, I think this story is much more than that.
Nicole Brown Simpson was an innocent, women with kids who just was caught up in a lot more than her daily life. I think this story is more of a domestic violence story than the actual show. Even though she did divorce her abusive husband, I think she could have told someone or reached out. It makes me think how sad some people end up and I hope that people can learn from this. To reach out for help or if you know of someone who is in an abusive relationship, to try to get help. The horrific crime that OJ (may have) committed goes down in history as one of the most well-known cases. Maybe he wanted more publicity? But, he's been charged and serving more time for other crimes at the moment. Tune into FX on Tuesdays for "American Crime Story."
