If you talk to just about anyone, they’ll most likely agree that 2016 has been an awful year. I can’t remember the last time my Twitter, Facebook and Instagram feeds have had the same collective theme: 2016 sucked.

However, there is a theory behind the overall awfulness of this year. It lies in Numerology.

Numerology has Universal Years and Personal Years.

A Universal Year is basically what a person is going through all year long. A Universal Year means that everyone will feel the energy related to a particular number during the entire year.

So, to calculate the Universal Year, you add the numbers of the year together. For 2016, it would be two plus zero plus one plus six, which equals nine.

So what is the significance of the nine?

A Universal Year of nine is about endings, completions, transformations, letting go and loss.

Additionally, this year was all about thinking back on and wrapping up what was started in the last one Universal Year, which was in 2008. A one Universal Year is the start of a cycle and signifies new beginnings.

I am sure all of us experienced loss, transformation, completion and letting go during this past year. I know I did.

And, if you think back on many of the current events that happened this year, there was a lot of loss – think about all of the crazy celebrity deaths that happened, like the loss of Prince and David Bowie.

There were many celebrity break-ups and divorces (Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom’s divorce became finalized just this month).

Politics was super intense, not just in terms of what was going on all over the world, but if we step back on our own soil, we had one of the most contentious, hostile and angering election cycles that I can personally remember and that many of the older generations can remember (I figure my opinion alone wouldn’t hold that much water considering I am a bit younger and haven’t experienced a ton of election cycles).

But, there is good news. While 2016 was pretty much a terrible year (peppered with some good times), next year is a 1 Universal Year which means we will be in the beginning of a new cycle. Things will be moving forward.

We will feel things fall into place, and we will feel a renewed sense of focus. Think of it as a new chapter for all of us – one that is about achievements, independence, being an individual and stepping into our own personal creative talents.

So hang on everyone. We only have five more days of this, and then it’s full speed ahead to a brand new year – one that we can bank on being better than this last one.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
