Designers have a booming business. The red carpet will be rolled out. Every entertainment reporter cannot wait to be live at the scene. Acceptance speeches are rehearsed. All of this is for Hollywood's biggest night: The Academy Awards (a.k.a. the Oscars). I have looked up to these directors, actors, producers, and films for years. The art of filmmaking is beautiful and, on this night, all of America can watch as some get rewarded. This year the films are very even across the board, but we all want to know is if this will be Leonardo DiCaprio's year to shine.
DiCaprio has been nominated for his lead role in "The Revenant." This film is the brutal survival story of Hugh Glass (played by DiCaprio) in the American wilderness during times of western expansion. The cinematography in this film is simply amazing.
This is just one of the amazing cinematic shots during the film. The film is full of these breathtaking shots, so I definitely predict an Oscar for Best Cinematography.DiCaprio definitely went to the extremes of acting to pull off his character. He describes some of the scenes in an interview with Yahoo!. The bear fighting scene in particular is a pivotal point in the film.
The scene is unbelievable. If you have not yet seen this film, watch it just for this scene. DiCaprio did not stop at fighting a bear. He, along with the rest of the crew, braved the harsh cold to make this film a masterpiece. There is also a scene which contains DiCaprio's instinctive reaction. He eats a real and raw bison liver. It was brutal to watch, but it made it all the more believable. He also crawls inside of a horse carcass. The man survived everything thrown at him and it has been rewarding so far.
"The Revenant" did brilliantly at the Golden Globe Awards with three wins. Alejandro G. Iñárritu took the award for Best Director. The film itself won Best Motion Picture (Drama). Last but not least, DiCaprio won Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama). Of course, the full list of nominations for the Oscars will be announced on January 14. The film may end up winning big in categories that were not offered at the Golden Globes.
The real pain is waiting until February 28 to find out who will take home the trophy. When I first saw "The Revenant," I doubted Leonardo, but now I am rooting for him. This film also has my unfading support due to the casting of Tom Hardy. That fact aside, I think that this year's award ceremony will be worth watching if you are as a big of a film buff as myself.
