A Diamond In The Rough
Marcelle Yeager

Before time, space, and matter were created, there was one God existing eternally as three separate persons. This perfect God manifested complete love and harmony amongst three individuals known as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God determined to create a beautiful realm as if within a diamond. He lovingly crafted His gem around the world so the whole of creation would be illuminated by the intricacies of His holiness. As the light of God’s goodness touches the diamond it bends and refracts into a glorious array of God’s magnificence. God did not need to be affirmed or praised, but freely chose to reveal His light to a world that would otherwise be shadowed in hopelessness. God delicately designed a world in which the heavens and the earth declare His glories to the beings that thrive from His presence. As the final cuts of His masterpiece, God made man: a creature indwelling the very image of God. Mankind became a depiction of God in the same way a mirror reflects the flat image of a three-dimensional object. He created humans as male and female; they are rational, intelligent, relational, and emotional beings with a heart designed to worship. God fashioned His diamond by establishing man as the sole caretaker residing within the gem; He commissioned man the work of polishing the diamond from the inside so it would always flash the brilliancy of God’s goodness. A stainless relationship was established between God and man where man could see and communicate with God face to face. God deemed His jewel perfect; He held it within His hands, peering intently into the hearts of His beloved creations.

Within the gem, man quickly forgot about the source of the light and began appreciating the beauty of the diamond opposed to the Maker. In every man therein lies a morale code written on his heart so that he would be solely responsible for his actions. Man exalted himself and immediately began clawing the interior surface of the diamond, trying to dim the light of God within the world. In every man exists a heart God’s treasure became so impure that He drops the diamond to His feet in the fall of mankind, no longer able to keep it close to His face. Still some of the radiance of God pierced the darkness within the diamond, but for man the limited light was not enough to find God and restore the relationship by his own means. God was not yet finished with mankind or His diamond. From the beginning, God had in mind a perfect plan of restoration.

To bring the diamond back to God’s presence, Jesus became the worthy adornment by which the diamond could dwell. Jesus, a band of pure gold, allowed God to place humanity upon His finger. Through Jesus man can again be connected to God, allowing the light to penetrate the darkness. Those who believe have the power to polish the precious stone allowing more of God's glory to shine through. Whoever does not recognize Jesus as the only means to God will fight those who are refining the gem by continuing to scratch away at the diamond. These people hate the glory of God and will by any means necessary try to block out His goodness. The war between the believers and the rebels seems overwhelming; submitting to allow God’s light into the world costs everything. One day, Jesus will replace the old diamond with a new gem and cast away the old with all of its flaws and impurities. Jesus will bar all people from this new diamond who continued to rebel against the work God has given His people and dispatch them into a place where there will be no more light. God will again view His people face to face and His glory will radiate throughout the world. The precious gem will once again be the glory of God in a beauty that will last forever.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
