Detrimental wildfires have began in the South and have yet to be stopped. A Code Orange was declared this past Friday in Charlotte, North Carolina due to the ongoing forest fires taking place in the area and surrounding states.
Wildfires have now burned more than 13,000 acres in the north Georgia mountains, south of the Tennessee line. Fox News reported that the original blaze is believed to have been started by a lightening strike that took place mid-October of this year. Apparently only 20 percent of the original fire was contained.
In the recent days Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee have made their residents evacuate due to the heavy layers of smoke in the air. Special health masks have now been made available in case anyone that has chosen to stay needs to complete any outdoor activity.
Many of the forest fires are results of suspected arson. Numerous investigations have been taking place in North Carolina's Nantahala National Forest. More than 20 wildfires have burned 17,000 acres in the area. Recently, a grant for money to fight the blazes has been approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Governor Pat McCrory of North Carolina has stated that the company will pay 75 percent of the emergency protective measures taken in fighting the fires.
In South Carolina, the Easley Fire Department has requested donations of water, gatorade, and other drinks to help the residents of the surrounding community that suffered from a wildfire that took place on Pinnacle Mountain.
