Finals Season Is More Stressful Than Any Other Season–Now That You're Done Here Are 10 Ways To Destress

In This Article:

In order to survive another finals season, it is pertinent to take the time to do some self-love. A couple of these activities will be a sure way to relax after finals. You can use these tips before and during finals as well, although some of them may take up time from studying. These activities are perfect to relax from the heavy stress of finals!

1. Baking

Baking is my favorite way to destress. After studying all day, baking/cooking is a great way to take out any tension you may have and put all your energy into making a delicious treat! This works for me every time!

2. Netflix

Once your brain cannot take any more equations or lecture readings, watching your favorite show can easily lighten your mood. It's alright to reward yourself with AHS or Chris D'Elia once-in-awhile.

3. Books

On the other hand, if you're sick of staring at your laptop screen, taking out a book to read is a great way to destress. I find that reading almost always takes me away from the realities of the world. So, if you feel like you need a break from reality, choosing a good book is a great way to do so!

4. Lighting Candles

Unfortunately, if you live in the dorms this doesn't pertain to you. It's great to have a nice, relaxing night in and lighting a candle does the trick.

5. Music

Listening to music is a great way to give your mind a break from studying. If you already listen to music while you study, then you're ahead of the game!

6. Nap

So many people think you'd be crazy to take a nap instead of studying! It's said that sleeping after studying actually helps you retain information much better. So, take a nap guys!

7. Working Out

Instead of stress eating and regretting it once exams are over, try working out instead. You'll feel much better after all your exams are completed because then you'll have a little extra leeway for your holiday dinner!

8. Art

Don't get me wrong, I know what it's like to be literally the worst artist ever, but even doodling can get your mind off of homework for a while! It's the sure way to let your mind wander and relax!

9. Hot Showers

A nice hot shower is like your own homemade spa. Grab you favorite shampoo and body wash, to wash away all the stress!

10. Cleaning

I know cleaning doesn't sound like the most enjoyable activity, but getting organized and having a freshly-made bed is nice to see after a stressful day of finals.

I hope you all use these tips to stay sane during and after finals season!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
