A fresh start. A new beginning. This can be the hope when moving to a new place to call your own. And if you're moving into a place to call your own? Why not add a little of your own style to it, if you can? Even if it's just your bedroom. The idea of designing your own room can either be exciting or horrifying, depending on your interests. For me, I personally love the idea and most of the process. Because like most things, there are aspects to love and hate.
1. Avoid indecisiveness.
This may generally involve picking base and accent colors. You can think of a base color as the ice cream scoop and the accent colors as the toppings. If you're someone who loves art, design, fashion, or anything involving colors, then this part will definitely be a fun experience. This may also involve picking a theme for your furniture — such as dark, light, modern, classic, retro, etc. Sometimes people will even go with a playful theme like "Pokémon."
Just an example, folks. However, if you're someone who is bad with colors, has no sense of fashion, hates the idea of design, or just simply is too indecisive, then this task will be daunting for you. In fact, if you're indecisive, this whole process will be stressful to say the least.
2. Don't shop alone.
This next task is maybe not something to go at alone, and I say this for many reasons. For starters, you may just need some help carrying and or transporting everything you buy. This especially depends on how in depth you go with designing your room. And if you decide to buy furniture or any other common household items or bedroom items, I definitely recommend checking out IKEA. Especially if you're like me and are tight on funds. However, in my opinion, they aren't the best when it comes to anything involving fabrics. You would be much better off checking out stores like Target and Macy's. And another tip: if something you have in mind can't be found in stores, order online. Just make sure they have a good return policy. This way you're not trapped with unwanted junk.
3. Don't be impatient.
Once you've bought furniture, and all your other housing items, it's time to finally set it all up and lay it all out. This can be the most challenging part for some of us. Why? Because we may have to build some things, which as we all know isn't always the easiest task. IKEA, although typically very affordable, is known for having its customers put together their products. This process will most definitely require tools, time, effort and patience. Some of us have more than others when it comes to these things.
