It doesn't matter who you are or where you are, if you are living and breathing, you have thoughts and opinions and aspirations.
My personal aspirations have led me to the world of journalism. I aspire to share my thoughts and opinions through the written word in order to bridge cultural gaps and provide a non-violent form of communication for the world.
As school has come back in session and students all-over have been moving through their first few days of classes, the reality of working towards who I want to become has come back into my thoughts. This is the time when everyone is thinking about who they're becoming and where they're going in life.
So here is my advice to you, do what makes you happy. Do not do what makes you the most money if you do not love it. You will have a job in this field for the rest of your life. As much as we hope it's not true, our lives will revolve around our wellbeing produced by what job we have.
The term wellbeing has changed recently, and it is something we must be aware of. Wellbeing is not what society wants you to think, that it is literally how well off you are. Wellbeing has to do with your emotional, physical, and mental needs more than it does monetary gains.
It has been proven that if you're not happy with your job, harmful statistics arise, whether they be self induced or not. Therefore we must do what we love, we must do something that brings us joy. For me, that means pursuing a career in journalism. I love that I can simply use my words to share important information and opinions with everyone in the world, that we are all connected through the path of speaking.
I feel like I can make a difference doing what I love, more of a difference than I could if I did something that gave me the most money. Don't get me wrong, I'm expecting to have a hard time getting a job out of college because the written word has taken a recent downfall due to a corrupted market. Journalists are now paid off to write a biased article, essentially to tell people what they want to hear.
This is where I make my difference in the world, if the world starts doing what it loves, we all can make a considerable difference. Society deserves truth, and I can make my difference by giving it.
How will you make yours?
