You Deserve Better
A Relationship Survival Guide

We live in a society that puts so much pressure on people to be in a relationship. Whether you're logging on to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or any other social media platform, you are bombarded with videos and pictures of people's relationships or relationship goals. Why are there even these "relationship goals?" Shouldn't you be in a relationship with someone because you genuinely like them, not because you want to fulfill goals society has put in place? People are willing to settle on someone just so they can say they are in a relationship or have someone to post about all over social media.

It doesn't help that we live in a society where dating barely exists anymore. We have "dating" apps such as Tinder, but in reality people are usually just looking to hook up. It's so hard to truly get to know someone when all people care about is "Netflix and chill." People are willing to settle for less because they can barely get to know someone. People are in these relationships centered around hooking up instead of a relationship focused on an emotional connection instead of just a physical connection. You deserve to be in a relationship that's based on so much more than just your physical connection to someone.

There's a huge difference between genuinely liking someone and liking the attention they give you. It's hard to differentiate these two things at times, but it's important to be truthful to yourself and really ask yourself if you like the person or the attention. If you can honestly say you only like the attention, it's time to let that person go. You deserve to have actual feelings for someone and not just the feeling of attention.

If you are in a situation where you are questioning if you deserve better, the answer is almost always yes. You deserve someone who will show you just how much they care about you every single day, not just when its convenient for them. You deserve someone who will show you off to all their friends and wants to bring you on dates. You deserve someone who would do just about anything for you. You deserve to know where you stand with someone and never have to question their feelings for you. You deserve someone who is clear about their intentions with you and never have to question that. You deserve someone who is your best friend and that you genuinely love spending time with, no matter what you may be doing. You deserve someone who wants to give you the world and more. You deserve someone who will love you even when it's hard to do so. You deserve someone who will fight for you when times get rough. You deserve to be in a relationship where care, respect and effort are mutual. Relationships aren't just one a one way street and it's important to not to settle for one that feels like that.

Although we live in a generation that puts so much pressure to have a significant other, don't settle for someone just so you can say you're in a relationship. You deserve better. Know your worth and don't settle. Ever.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
