Society has installed many different ideas on how we should be and how we should look into our everyday lives. It’s very easy to get lost in this and start to conform to what is now normal. It’s essential to stay away from this and love yourself for who you are.
“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.”
Love yourself so others can love you too. When you are confident in who you are, others are able to see that confidence and contribute to it. Of course there will be people who will try to bring you down, but when you love yourself, they won’t have any power over you. Loving yourself is more than hitting the gym. It’s doing what makes you happy for your own happiness.
When you love yourself, you allow yourself to genuinely love others. You won’t be jealous of what others have because you’ll be satisfied with yourself. You’ll open up to others because you’re comfortable with yourself and when others open up to you, you’ll accept them for who they are.
Self acceptance is happiness. When you love yourself and have accepted who you are, no one can tell you who to be or how to live because you’ll be okay figuring things out for yourself and won’t need to depend on others. Self love needs to be unconditional. It’s easy to love who you are when we are doing well or accomplish a goal. But it’s most important to love yourself when you aren’t performing 100 percent.
Practicing self love can be difficult. Here are six simple ways to start.
- Start each day by saying something positive about yourself—something that will make you smile.
- Surround yourself with people who love and encourage you.
- Stop comparing yourself to other people. Where they are in their life, isn’t where you are.
- End any toxic relationships with people who bring you down or make you feel less about yourself.
- Reward yourself when you accomplish a goal.
- Embrace what makes you different.
