Did you know you can be sick without actually looking sick?
This is known as an invisible illness. There are several types of illnesses such as ADHD, Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, and depression. Today, however; I will talk about depression. Depression is an illness that can be described as feelings of lowness, worthlessness and sadness. Depression can affect a person's sleep patterns and appetite. Although some causes of depression can be unexplained, depression can be caused by traumatic events in one's life.
Depression is a very serious illness, and should not be taken lightly. Depression is definitely NOT something to joke about or make fun of — just because a person does not look sick, does not mean they are not sick. Depression is a mental illness, and that's why it's known as an invisible illness; just because it can not be seen from the outside, does not mean it is not there. It can change a person's behavior, depending on an individual's depression severity. Some people, like myself, might have some unresolved anger caused by past events. These events may cause them to lash out at loved ones for no reason. More than 300 million people worldwide suffer from depression.
Like I mentioned before, people who suffer from depression have a sense of worthlessness, which can, unfortunately, cause someone to consider or succeed with committing suicide because they feel like a "burden" on society. A lot of people do not understand depression and think someone who is suffering from depression is "making it up" or tell them "it is all in your head". As a sufferer myself, I can assure you it is not something made up or all in a person's head, it is 100 percent real. It is a disease, and it can take over your life. I pray for anyone suffering from such a terrible disease.
Remember, all these illnesses are invisible. Treat everyone with love and respect, you do not know what they could be dealing with.
